How to get copywriters to write for free

I removed all the plates from the barbell and told my little brother to go carry it.

He looks at me and goes, “Pftt, easy stuff.”

He went to the bench, lay down, and tried to lift the empty barbell.

Anytime I post videos about me lifting weights in the gym, people tend to think it looks so easy ... until they try it.

All that aside, it’s been a busy day.

I spent most of it writing copy and doing research for my current client.

If you are currently hiring copywriters, I want to show you a few ways you can get copywriters to write copy for you free of charge.

No 1. Give them a ton of work

I don’t know about other copywriters, but I value a client who is always giving me new projects to write copy on.

I hate being idle; it’s one of the reasons I write daily emails.

Giving copywriters more projects to write copy for helps them flex their copy skills and improve.

And if a client actually gives me a lot of work, once in a while, I’ll write their copy for free.

Or sometimes, if the project was a 10-part email series, I might write an extra 3 emails without asking for any money.

No 2. Pay them well … and on time

Honestly, I’ve worked with shady clients who try to play games when it’s time for payments.

Years ago, I had to threaten a client on Upwork to give me my balance or risk getting their account banned.?

After that incident, I rejected every new project from them.

If you want a loyal copywriter for your brand, be willing to pay them well and on time.

Don’t play games, and don’t let them chase you down for their money.

Doing this alone will set you apart from other clients they have worked with, and might even get them to write copy for you free of charge sometimes.

Of course, if the copywriter sucks, you are free to not work with them again.

But if they provide decent copy, be willing to pay them well for their services, and they’d be grateful.

At least, that’s what I do whenever I work with a good client who pays well and does so on time.

No 3. Royalties

Sometimes, suppose a copywriter trusts you, and you have proven yourself to be trustworthy. In that case, copywriters are willing to work for free in exchange for a cut in sales they make.

That way, the risk is on whether their copy converts.

This is probably one of the best ways to get copywriters to work for free.

I don’t often do this because a lot of clients try to play games.

But when I find a trustworthy client, I’m down to write copy for free in exchange for a cut in sales.?

It’s super rare for me to accept to do this, and sometimes I prefer to get some down payment to confirm the client is ready for business.

But, who knows, you might find a copywriter who is ready to do this with you.
