How to get clients with LinkedIn Surveys

One of the most underutilized yet powerful features on LinkedIn is the humble poll. In this edition of Advanced LinkedIn Hacks, I'm pulling back the curtain on how I use LinkedIn polls to identify qualified prospects and generate consistent sales opportunities for my business.

EXAMPLE: https://www.dhirubhai.net/posts/joeapfelbaum_crashcourse-mojopolls-pollstrategy-activity-7306279132865150976-gs4D

As I always say: "If they're not raising their hand, they're not ready to buy." LinkedIn polls provide the perfect opportunity for prospects to raise their virtual hand without the pressure of a direct sales conversation.

Let me show you exactly how I leverage polls in my Evyrgreen Networking System to turn casual connections into paying clients.

?? THE POWER OF LINKEDIN POLLS: BY THE NUMBERS

?? THE POWER OF LINKEDIN POLLS: BY THE NUMBERS

Before diving into the tactics, let's understand why polls are worth your time:

  • Posts with polls have 115% higher organic impressions compared to average LinkedIn posts (Tribal Impact)
  • Polls can generate twice as much engagement as regular posts (LinkedHelper)
  • One example poll achieved over 28,000 respondents (LinkedHelper)
  • Polls generate the highest impression rate on LinkedIn in 2024 (Socialinsider)
  • The quick engagement signals from polls boost feed visibility algorithmically
  • A case study by Postfity achieved a 20% conversion rate using polls for lead generation

The data speaks for itself: polls are engagement magnets. But here's the real secret - they're also qualification machines when used correctly.

?? MY 7-STEP PROCESS TO LEVERAGE LINKEDIN POLLS

?? MY 7-STEP PROCESS TO LEVERAGE LINKEDIN POLLS

STEP 1: Define Your Objective

Before creating any poll, get crystal clear on what you're trying to accomplish. For my "99 Advanced LinkedIn Hacks" course, my goal was to identify 100 people ready to commit to the program.

STEP 2: Craft a Question That Qualifies

Your poll question should naturally separate prospects who are ready to buy from those who aren't. For example:

? Poor question: "Do you use LinkedIn for business?" ? Good question: "How much would you invest in a system that doubled your LinkedIn leads in 90 days?"

STEP 3: Strategic Answer Options

Your options should segment your audience:

  • Include a high-end option for your ideal buyers
  • Add mid-range options for potential prospects
  • Include a low/no-cost option as a control

Example:

  • $1,997+ (I want premium results)
  • $997-1,996 (I want good results)
  • $497-996 (I'm testing the waters)
  • $0-496 (Just browsing options)

STEP 4: Add Context in the Post Text

The poll question has character limitations, so use the post text to:

  • Explain why you're asking
  • Add credibility (mention past results)
  • Create urgency ("Limited to the first 100 participants")

STEP 5: First-Hour Engagement Push

The LinkedIn algorithm decides whether to amplify your poll within the first hour. To maximize reach:

  1. Immediately comment with additional context
  2. Tag 3-5 relevant connections who might benefit
  3. Share the poll to relevant groups
  4. Message key allies asking for their participation

STEP 6: The Strategic Follow-Up System

This is where most people fail, but it's where the real magic happens:

  1. View voters daily (LinkedIn shows who participated)
  2. Segment by response (prioritize high-value respondents)
  3. Personalized outreach within 24 hours of voting:

"Hi [Name], I noticed you voted for the [$1,997+] option on my LinkedIn poll about LinkedIn lead generation. I'm curious - what specific challenges are you facing with your LinkedIn strategy right now?"

STEP 7: Conversion Pathway

For those who respond to your follow-up:

  1. Offer a 15-minute consultation call
  2. Direct them to your checkout page
  3. Provide immediate value (regardless of purchase)

Using this exact system, I secured 127 interested buyers for my "99 Advanced LinkedIn Hacks" course before I even created the content.

?? TECHNICAL GUIDE: HOW TO CREATE A LINKEDIN POLL

?? TECHNICAL GUIDE: HOW TO CREATE A LINKEDIN POLL

  1. Click "Start a post" at the top of your LinkedIn feed
  2. Click the "Create a poll" icon (looks like a bar graph) from the post creation options
  3. Enter your question (max 140 characters)
  4. Add 2-4 answer options (max 30 characters each)
  5. Set the poll duration (24 hours, 3 days, 1 week, or 2 weeks)
  6. Add your post content above the poll
  7. Consider adding relevant hashtags with 5,000-15,000 followers for optimal reach
  8. Review and publish

Pro Tip: One-week polls typically perform best, giving enough time for visibility while maintaining urgency. Also, consider adding a link to valuable free resources (guides, templates, etc.) in your post to gather contact information while providing value.

?? 5 ADVANCED POLL HACKS MOST PEOPLE DON'T KNOW

Hack #1: The Double-Comment Technique

Immediately after posting, add two comments:

  • First comment: Add value beyond the poll (a quick tip related to your question)
  • Second comment: Ask a secondary question to those who voted for specific options

This doubles engagement and gives the algorithm more signals to promote your content.

Hack #2: The Strategic Reshare

Wait until your poll has 50+ votes, then reshare it with a new insight based on the current results. This gives you two algorithmic boosts instead of one. The LinkedIn algorithm loves quick engagement signals, which is why polls perform so well in the feed.

Hack #3: The Poll-to-Content Pipeline

Create your next content piece based on poll results. For example: "Based on last week's poll, 63% of you struggle with LinkedIn messaging. Here's my messaging template that generates a 42% response rate..."

Hack #4: The Reverse Poll

Instead of asking what people want, ask what they DON'T want. Example: "What's your biggest LinkedIn frustration?" This often generates more authentic responses.

Hack #5: Include an "Other" Option

Always include an "Other" option in your polls to encourage comments. Add text like "Or is it something else? Let me know in the comments!" This dramatically increases engagement as people explain their unique situations, giving you more conversation starters and insights.

?? COMMON POLL MISTAKES TO AVOID

  1. Too many polls (limit to 1-2 per month for maximum impact)
  2. Obvious sales questions that feel manipulative
  3. Poor timing (Tuesdays and Wednesdays between 9-11am typically perform best)
  4. No follow-up strategy (the real value is in the post-poll conversations)
  5. Complex questions that require too much thought to answer quickly

?? YOUR NEXT STEPS

  1. Create your qualifying poll this week (use the templates provided)
  2. Implement the 7-step process for maximum visibility
  3. Track your results meticulously (who votes, who responds, who converts)
  4. Refine your approach based on performance

Remember, in my Evyrgreen Networking System, we don't leave success to chance. We implement proven systems that consistently convert connections into clients.

Joe Apfelbaum Simple questions can definitely be powerful! Thanks for the reminder. I've haven't used a poll before, but this just might prompt me to do so.

Great sharing, Joe. So much value here and some eye-openers too. I've been using LinkedIn polls for about 3 years now, about once every month, and share them in groups as well. Pretty soon, you'll learn which groups are duds and which ones have a fired-up crowd.
