How to get clients - The Domino Effect

How to get clients - The Domino Effect

There are two reasons why people join you.

Because of your reputation (trust).

Because of an irresistible offer.

(or a mix of both).

Now let's focus on the number 2, because without that you don't ever get chance to develop reputation.

What is an irresistible offer?

Well, strap in.

Make yourself a cup of coffee, matte, bubble tea...

Whatever works for you, because that is the fundamental question.

Don't have the time for that?

Skip this. Make my day. Continue struggling to get clients.

Still here?

Good, now it's just you and I and that random reader ??????.

  • I promise I'll spare you from and marketing jargons. Just juice, no seeds (yes pulp)

I'll tell you two real life stories (altered names)

Story 1: A sad day for cherry pie.

This weekend Susy feels like inviting friends over.

She starts baking a sweet cherry pie.??

When the cherry pie is ready, she decides to invite a few friends.

Friends come over and it turns out one was vegan, one was food intolerant, and the other was on a diet.

They back out of the deal.

That was a sad day for cherry pie.

Story 2: Alone in Kyoto.

James wants to plan a trip with his friend.

His friends love to travel and love spend time with James.

Then James plans a exciting trip to Kyoto. Best itinerary and best deals.

He didn't know that his friends just came back from a trip to Kyoto.

They back out of the deal.

James is alone in Kyoto.

If that makes you think of Scarlett Johanssson...

Well, James doesn't look like that. It's just a sad day for James.

Getting clients is not very different from the situations above.

You need an irresistible offer to the right people.

There's nothing wrong with cherry pie, or Kyoto, or you.

It's just that the pieces need to come together.

No more stories. They are terrible. Let's get clients.

Follow this sequence and you will achieve this:

Irresistible offer to the right people.

1. People - a.k.a. LEADS, for the aficionados.

The offer depends ENTIRELY on who you are offering it too. We can't overstate that. Think about it.

Grow your network, and start conversations.

Have people you can reach out to. Learn about who they are.

They will help you refine your offer.

Now that you know your friends, you are in a position to make an exciting proposition.

2. The Offer.

That's the part we talk about where we are going and how we are going.

Tokyo by boat?

It doesn't make sense.

Paris by horse?

Too hard + they've been before.

Vanuatu by seaplane?

Bingo.

The irresistible offer has to take people to an exciting destination they never been before. A new frontier. And ideally done in a way they never done before or a way that is easy and convenient.

3. The urgency.

The urgency is what makes it real. We can all plan and dream. Only those who can handle urgency get things done.

We are all going to die.

I said it.

(Now the algorithm isn't going to show this article to anyone. It's just you and I for real now. ??)

Urgency is not about pressuring people.

it's about letting them know the basic constraints of life.

Spots are limited.

Time is limited.

Join now, or regret forever.

It works because it's too real.

You missed the train before. Are you going to miss it again?

Others are going. You will be left behind and ces't la vie mon ami.

You don't need to lie and you don't need to create it artificially.

If there's no constraints to your offer - it's for everyone, anytime, everywhere, all time... it's not a good offer.

The Bottom Line

It does require some thinking to come up with an irresistible offer.

Yes, it does.

But, you want to be paid for your creativity, not your time, right?

A summary for you who skipped to the end:

If you want to get clients, pretend you are creating a special invitation to your friends.

  • Pick the friends.
  • Choose the adventure.
  • Let them know when the train is leaving to make them know it's real.

Maybe a cherry pie will help.
