You will NEED a business account if you want to get lots and lots of traffic on Pinterest, and Setting up your Pinterest business account CORRECTLY is the first step to effectively driving traffic to your blog with Pinterest.

The best part is; There’s no cost to signing up for a business account, it's totally free.

I often see bloggers both beginners and even experienced ones set up their Pinterest accounts poorly or incorrectly. I don’t want to see you make the same mistake as them because this is one factor that could prevent you from getting all the traffic you deserve.

I want to ensure you get this right the first time. This will prevent you from wasting time and coming back to do it again.

To make the most of Pinterest for your blog, put yourself in the shoes of your target audience. Consider how you would like them to discover your account and what content would appeal to them.

Remember, your Pinterest profile should complement your blog and represent your brand’s identity.

There are two things you must do to set up a Pinterest business account to drive traffic:


Step 1: Create a Pinterest Business Account

If you are totally new to Pinterest, the first step is to create a Pinterest business account from scratch.

But If you have a personal Pinterest account and primarily pin images related to your future blog topics, consider this:

For instance, if you pin a lot of fitness images and plan to blog in the health and fitness niches, you can switch to a Pinterest business account.

This is beneficial as your account has already "aged," and you may have followers interested in these topics, which can help when you pin content related to health and fitness.

However, if you prefer to keep your personal interests separate from your blog, it's best to create a new business account from scratch which is what I strongly recommend.

While I recommend starting fresh to maintain a personal account for fun, the choice ultimately depends on your preferences and goals.

Setting up a Pinterest Business account is easy and straightforward. Follow these steps to get started::


1. Go to Pinterest Business Page Click on "Sign up" in the top-right corner.


Fill in your email address, create a password, and enter your age. Use a business email for a professional touch, but if you don’t have one simply use your normal email address. Click "Continue" to proceed.


2. Describe your business by selecting what your business is all about. If you do not see the right option for your business click “others” and proceed.


3. Complete Your Profile: You can Add your business name using your blog name. as this helps Pinterest understand your niche and connect you with the right audience.

Add a link to your website. I am assuming you already have a blog/website.

Next, select your “Country/Region” and “Language.

Select three business goals and also the primary focus of your business. Click "Done" and proceed.


Next, you will be asked, “WHERE WOULD YOU LIKE TO START?”

I recommend you click “Build your profile” under “Showcase your brand.” That way you can immediately start optimizing your Pinterest profile, which is quick and easy.


4. Optimize Your Account: I will go through three simple steps to help you optimize your Pinterest Business Profile; Pinterest display name, About your profile (bio), and Profile Image.


Pinterest Display Name

By inputting a few relevant keywords in your display name, Pinterest users can find you more easily when searching for certain keywords or phrases in the Pinterest search bar.

As you can see from my account in the picture above, I included my blog name "ZIXPRENEUR" along with some keywords related to my blog topics. Depending on your niche, find keywords or phrases that align with your blog topics.

There are many keywords you can use, but you are limited by the small character field, so keep it short and concise.

The “About your Profile” Field

Write a clear and engaging bio that includes keywords related to your blog.

I highly recommend paying special attention to the “ABOUT YOUR PROFILE” field. The best practice is to optimize your profile, to no more than 40 words, by including some keywords or phrases that will increase the chances of people searching for your profile once you have more authority on Pinterest.

Don’t try to be “unique” or “cute” by using words or phrases that people don’t usually search for.

As you can see in the region where the blue arrow is pointing in the previous image, I want to target quick and basic keywords like "make money online, affiliate marketing, work from home, and passive income".

Upload Your Profile Picture or Logo

Upload a profile picture, ideally your logo or a professional photo.

By including a profile image, you’ll increase brand awareness of you and your blog as time goes by. On top of that, users who see a profile image, especially if it’s a picture of yourself, will see you as more inviting.

Using a picture of yourself or a brand logo is entirely up to you and there is no right or wrong approach to uploading a profile pic. Do what makes the most sense for you and your brand.

Now that you’ve optimized your Account, it’s time to claim your website.


Step 2: Claim your Website or Blog on Pinterest

Make sure to claim your other accounts such as your website, Blog, YouTube, Instagram, and Etsy store.


It’s important to claim your blog or website because, Once your website is claimed, you gain access to Pinterest Analytics.

This tool provides insights into how your pins are performing, which can help you understand your audience better and tailor your content to their preferences.

Claimed websites display your profile picture and a follow button on every pin from your site. This reinforces your branding and makes it easier for users to follow your Pinterest account.

A verified website on Pinterest adds an element of credibility to your pins. Users are more likely to trust and engage with content from verified sources, increasing your chances of driving traffic and conversions.

Claiming your site also allows you to enable Rich Pins, which provide more information directly on the pin, such as prices, availability, or ingredients. This makes your pins more informative and engaging.
