How to Get Better Faster

I hired a coach about three months ago to help me with my writing. I was already a pretty good writer. However, I knew I could be better.

Hopefully, you've noticed the difference!

The results for me have been transformational.

• I slashed the time it takes me to write something in half, thereby freeing me up to work on other things or simply sit on the beach.
• I've experienced a significant uptick in inquiries from people seeking my help.
• I'm in a much better place in terms of revenue than I was three months ago.
• I'm happy. I now look forward to writing.

Many of you are like me. You're pretty good at what you do. However, you know there's room for improvement.

Take my client Mary (not her real name). She's a leader that I recently coached, who was reasonably sure she was a strong communicator. However, that's not the feedback she received from her boss during her annual review. She knew that she'd have to up her game if she wanted to be considered for a promotion.

We started our coaching engagement with a 360 review, which is where the coach gathers feedback from the people who work directly with the individual. We discussed the results, and my client then chose one goal that would move her forward a mile, rather than three goals that would move her forward an inch.

We involved her stakeholders in helping her stay accountable for the action plan we created. 

There were some ups and downs along the way, which is to be expected. 

She stayed the course and was promoted five months into our engagement.
