How to Get Any Job: Tell Managers what they want to Hear.
Having started working a job at the age of thirteen, I've had a variety of job positions, worked in a variety of industries, and experienced the culture of numerous small, mid, and large businesses. One thing they all have in common: to get the job, you just need to tell the manager what they want to hear.
7 Things Really Persuasive People Do: INC Magazine
In the beginning of my career track, I found myself in a great job for a technology company, and the beginning of the internet bubble, but sooner or later the company was overtaken and merged together. Subsequently, a layoff happened. A mentor recommended I become an interview junkie. Decades later, I've approached interviewing with every angle, and I noticed when I was hired, I just sold the hiring manager, and if needed their bosses, want they needed to hear.
Did I manipulate them, maybe, did I play them, possibly, but I've realized if you're blunt, and completely-honest to the questions asked, you probably, won't be a good fit for the position. Instead, just play the cards, and try to win each hand. This doesn't mean you have to lie, or be dishonest, just don't be blantly honest. Be selective, and just tell them whatever they need to hear to give you the job.
It would be lovely to be completely honest with strangers, but don't make that mistake! Instead, consider they're are playing the same game of selective honesty with you. Telling you whatever you need to hear to accept the job offer. The truth is most people lie all the time, but most of communication isn't verbal, so realize it's not always what you say. Therefore, there's no need to spill the beans about your uncertain future. Just honestly sell them hard on your ability to do that job today, based on what they're looking for, and most likely, you will be considered for the job.
