How GenZ (Zoomers) will shape the future

This incoming group of adults just wants to create and connect. They value competition only as much as it helps them to create more/better, not for the sake of winning like past generations, but rather, for the sake of connection.

They’ve come up in a world full of isolation and consolation prizes. Winning for them isn’t what winning was for generations past. In a world of social influence— judges and rubrics are less powerful than ever before.?Followers and subscribers decide who reigns supreme.

Runner-ups are just as likely to become crowd favorites as the traditional winners simply because so few of us identify with, or as winners.?

GenZ is a generation that has experienced and witnessed the two greatest forms of isolation and so craves connection and camaraderie.

The ongoing and most pervasive form of isolation is the technologically induced sensory deprivation of social media interaction. You can be a regular Jane/Joe, have 1M followers, friends or fans, and no one you can track deeply enough to cope with depression or grief.

GenZ deeply knows the sensory deprivation of sheltering in place due to a historic global pandemic (IKR, DRM). This is leading to a renaissance of the outside which more and more of this generation is being awakened to.

The reliance on others required to deeply enjoy the world “outside” awakens the hidden power and gratification of cooperation over competition that former generations lost to mass consumerism and capitalism.?

Zoomers know they’ve inherited a world in ecological collapse.

They are witness to the rapid effects of climate change with every new season. The protests, droughts, extreme weather, and pollution have them starting adulthood with their backs against the wall.

Their choice is between a) competition to inherit a further fractured world, or b) cooperation to heal/redesign a world we can all enjoy. The algorithms will never be engaging enough to fool GenZ but that won’t stop Meta, Google, ByteDance, Rooblox etc from trying anyway.

GenZ inspires catalytic equality, equity, economic, and earth redesign.

Here's why;?

1. GenZ’s overexposure, desensitization, and intolerance for mass violence. They grew up on video replays of Black lives being snuffed out on social media over and over. They were raised in schools where active shooter drills taught them to prepare for their classmates to murder them in cold blood. They grew up on violent media that we pay to “enjoy” on demand with sponsored ads. They’ve had enough of the worst extremes competition brings.

2. A screaming mental health and burnout crisis. Everyone sees it but few are willing to publicly acknowledge that this society is broken and is in dire need of redesign. But fear of social unrest that makes the Great Resignation pale in comparison keeps prior gens quiet.

3. GenZ is witness to governments' total failure to disrupt the domino effect of unsustainable corporate-driven environmental and economic abuse. Redesign of currency, deglobalization, and decentralization has the potential to disrupt fiscally powered corporate imperialism.

4. GenZ has discovered that “Identity” is only valuable in a functioning collective where expression can be felt. But the instant speed of modernity is leading us all?to an increasingly numb existence.

So what does GenZ want?

It’s obvious! They want to create and connect in a world where everyone can flourish. The innovations that recognize and enable this future will form the pillars of the coming age, what I call the Age of the Selfpreneur.
