Getting Started
Before we dive in, ensure you have the Link Reader plugin turned on. We'll be using this plugin specifically for this tutorial.
For our reference, we'll be using Tropic's Job Board. I'm not affiliated with Tropic, it's just an example of a job board with a variety of roles for our tutorial.
Tools You Need
We'll also be utilizing GPT technologies, specifically OpenAI's API, along with the Google Sheets tool. Don't hesitate to reach out if you encounter any limitations or errors; I'm here to help!
The Process
Firstly, head over to your chosen job board - in our case, Tropic's. Copy the link listing all of the open jobs at the company.
Note: In this tutorial, all the positions are remote in the US. If this changes, it's important to include the location in your process.
Then, paste the list of open roles in Google Sheets. Let's keep things organized by creating columns. Let's make one column for the job title and another for our Boolean search strategies.
In this case, we don't need a third column for location, but should your positions vary by location, it's useful to include that information in a separate column.
Generate Your Search String
To generate our search string, we're going to craft a prompt for GPT technologies. Here's an example of how your prompt could look:
"Pretend to be the head of talent at a startup. Generate a Boolean search string that I can use on LinkedIn Recruiter to source candidates for this role."

Then, in Google Sheets, click on the cell you want the Boolean search string to appear in, and enter this formula:
=AI("YourPrompt"&A2)
In this formula, "YourPrompt" is the text of the prompt we crafted, and A2 is the cell in which your job title is located.
Running Your Search
Apply this formula across all your open roles. Remember, you can do this simultaneously for as many roles as you have open.
However, always double-check your strings. There might be some errors, for example, you might see extra information such as 'with five years of experience'. Simply delete these to keep your string clean and effective.
Troubleshooting
Should you encounter any errors (like server issues), most can be resolved simply by re-running the formula. Remember, troubleshooting is part of the process, and don't hesitate to ask for help if needed!
Validation
Once you've generated all your Boolean search strings, validate them by testing them on LinkedIn Recruiter. While I won't be showing this step (to respect the privacy of those open to work), rest assured that these strings will indeed work!
And there you have it! A simple and efficient way to generate hundreds of Boolean search strategies, paving the way for more effective sourcing of candidates for your open roles. This process empowers recruiters to hit the ground running with new roles, making the future of recruiting truly exciting. I hope this tutorial has been helpful and has made you feel more empowered in your career. Happy recruiting!
