HOW TO GENERATE NEW IDEAS. Brainstorming method

There is a Walt Disney method in coaching that is said to have been based on his managment experience. This method can be used both in teamwork and individually, if we are faced with the task of creating or implementing something new.

So what's new about Walt Disney?

His office consisted of several floors and employees were located on each of them, depending on the tasks set for them.

Dreamers occupy the upper floors. Their task is to generate ideas, be creative and come up with something new.

One floor below is where realists work. They get ideas from dreamers and without criticizing the task, they take each one and develop a plan for its implementation

Further, the implementation plans go down to the floor below, where the critics work. Their task is to criticize the implementation plan of the idea.

How to use the method for personal purposes?

It is necessary to switch on a dreamer, a realist and a critic by turn. For example, in the next hour I generate new ideas. When I see that I start to discard them or they end up, I take a break.

As a dreamer, these questions will help you

  • How can it be?
  • What are the most important details?
  • What will change when this is implemented?

As a realist

  • What should be done to achieve the goal?
  • What resources already exist?
  • What resources are missing and where can I get them?
  • When is the result needed? Who can help?

As a critic

  • How realistic is the plan?
  • What are the risks? What can go wrong?
  • What is not included in the plan?
