HOW TO FORGET THE WEEKEND FOOD GUILT

HOW TO FORGET THE WEEKEND FOOD GUILT

Have you woken up this Monday morning feeling guilty about what you ate and drank over the weekend?

Please don’t

Dwelling on what has gone will only make matters worse.

The chances are that you feel that way because you have set unrealistic expectations for yourself i.e. 'I am going to be good ALL the time, no matter what...'

Then, when you allow yourself a little bit of pleasure, you feel guilty, depressed and lacking in discipline.

But punishing yourself only reinforces the cycle of losing control and then feeling depressed and self-sabotaging.

I recently discussed this with a client during a coaching session.

I asked her to reframe her feelings of guilt and anxiety by asking:

"How will what you ate or drank yesterday affect your weight loss goals and overall health 6 months from now?"

"I guess it won't if I don't continue," she replied.

SPOT ON!

The chances are that if you put it behind you and get back to consistently practising healthy habits, it will have very little, if any, impact at all.

But if you continue to beat yourself up and think, "screw it, I've messed up now so what is the point?" like my client was doing, you could end up on a slippery slope that WILL affect your progress.

And at the end of the day, you can't go back in time but you CAN focus on what you do now....

MOVE ON.

CHANGE THE CYCLE.

EAT WELL TODAY

And really, what is the worst that can happen?

No-one gained a dress size overnight.

It is the sum of your actions that will lead you to where you want to be.

The key is to not overindulge excessively on a regular basis and if you are not being so strict all the time, this is much less likely to happen.

Be kinder to yourself, enjoy your day and be grateful for what it brings instead of dwelling on what can't be undone.

Please comment below if you have the 'guilty' feeling today....
