AUSTIN, TX – When Mark Segal started his Amazon FBA business, he already had 15 years of startup experience under his belt, including a digital agency. He was on the hunt for his next venture when he turned to Amazon. He never expected that in two years he would be successfully exiting that business.
Building a Business Based in Cremorne, an area of Melbourne that is considered the Silicon Valley of Australia, Mark was looking for a new venture. At a time when FBA businesses were booming, Mark signed up for an Amazon training course and learned how to start and grow an FBA store.
That was the starting point for Marksson, his ecommerce business selling designer wall clocks. Soon, Mark found himself flying out to China to meet with suppliers, and before long the store was live. The business was positioned to sit in the mid-range—the affordable luxury segment. Mark created a product that looked high-end, with a mid-range price point.
He put systems and processes in place, and grew a business that was able to run on autopilot. As his focus began to shift to new projects, he knew it was time to find a new owner and listed the business for sale on Flippa.

Almost immediately, Mark’s business received massive buzz on Flippa, and he began speaking with potential buyers. “I really sort of put it on there just to gauge the market. It exceeded my expectations,” Mark says. “It was pretty quick from then on and the team from Flippa was a major help. It was kind of like a concierge service where team members jump on and give you all sorts of advice, whether it’s optimizing your listing, or helping with valuation.”
A Speedy Sale On Flippa Mark knew the business would be perfect for someone who wanted to own a designer homewares/lifestyle brand without the headaches of starting a business. At the time of sale, the business was a perfect springboard to expand into a D2C (direct-to-consumer) company where the new owner could build on the brand and introduce other home and office products.
When Marksson was bought, the 3-year old profitable Amazon FBA ecommerce business had a seller rating of 91%, and was sold along with brand assets, social media accounts, and more.
Marksson was listed in a 30-day auction and in just one week, the deal was closed and the business was sold. “I was comfortable in the end having it sold on Flippa,” says Mark. “There’s so much opportunity that I feel like there’s a lot of talk around buying investment properties. But I feel like you can get the same benefit from the right assets online. You can jump on Flippa — there’s a lot of opportunity there.”
Today, Mark operates a successful SEO agency where he works with various kinds of businesses and provides services like website speed optimization and spec link audits to clients.
