How to Fix Earphones Audio Issues on Ubuntu Linux

Discovering an audio problem on your computer in the middle of a project can be frustrating.

In this scenario, audio was output through the laptop speaker, but there was no sound when I connected my earphones.

If you've recently encountered this problem and somehow found your way here, I hope this tutorial is helpful.

How to Fix Earphones Audio Issues on Ubuntu Linux

Hypervisor: Virtual Box

Distro: Ubuntu 22.04.3

1. Make sure you have Audio output enabled on your machine

1. Run this command in your terminal to install alsamixer?????

sudo apt-get install alsa alsa-tools?        

1. Open alsamixer by running:

sudo alsamixer        

1. Use the right arrow key to navigate to ''Headphone" and Press 'M' to turn the Headphone Jack Sense on.

1. Navigate to "Line Jack" and repeat the process.

1. Press the "Esc" button to return to your shell.
2. Run the following command to save your new settings:

sudo alsactl store        

Reboot your instance by running:

sudo reboot
