The marketplace is shifting: companies slashing staff, corporations shedding unprofitable divisions and, with the advent of AI, forecasts that 60% of jobs will disappear.
Even as leaders and professionals publicly profess that their role is safe, it’s akin to whistling past the graveyard.?In their inside voice, they’re asking themselves “Am I going to be alright?”
Yes, you can sit tight and see what happens, but?these uncertain times also represent an opportunity. Here are strategies you can implement today to take charge of your career and your life.?
Reality check.?Take a deeper look at your industry, employer and team. Assess the realities that are currently impacting each. Do a brutally honest evaluation of your situation. The answers may well prompt you into action.
Build your network.?Take stock of the relationships outside your current role/company. Invest more time and effort meeting and connecting with industry professionals. They represent potential for the future.
Be creative.?You have great value. Explore where you can share your skills and expertise. Join a charity Board or deliver presentations to young professionals. This could be the chance to start a side hustle while on someone else's payroll.
Have a sense of urgency.?Start working on this today. Work on the presumption you won't have a job or will need to make a career move sometime in the next six months. Can you afford to wait until then to start looking?
P.S.: Please pass this on to anyone you think needs to hear this message.?
This weeks tip: Alternate career planning is like insurance. The best time to get it is when you don't need it.?
