As the holidays approach, you can strike a powerful balance: finishing strong while laying the groundwork for an inspired start to 2025. Purpose-driven leaders don’t just drive outcomes—they ignite energy, enthusiasm, and clarity. By creating small wins now and making space for renewal, you can build momentum that carries into the year ahead.


Small Wins = Big Momentum. Small, meaningful actions create a powerful ripple effect that fuels progress, engagement, and motivation. Psychologically, achieving a small win activates the brain's reward system, releasing dopamine—a neurotransmitter associated with pleasure, focus, and forward momentum. This creates a sense of accomplishment and inspires us to take the next step. Small wins also reduce overwhelm by breaking big goals into achievable milestones, fostering confidence and trust within teams.?

Take one small, meaningful action:

  • Use tools like checklists, progress boards, or dashboards to make achievements visible. Seeing forward movement fuels energy and accountability. How can you make your goals (and progress) visual?
  • Identify and celebrate one small “win” from this week— consistent progress, even if imperfect, compounds over time. Taking small actions regularly is more impactful than waiting for a big, flawless result. For bonus points, track these on a “win list” that you maintain throughout the year!


Rest Fuels Creativity. Intentional rest isn’t idle time; it’s a critical investment in your energy, clarity, and creativity. Neuroscience shows that our brains continue processing information during rest, often leading to the “aha!” moments that seem to appear out of nowhere. Stepping away from intense focus allows the brain to shift into default mode network (DMN) activity, which is where problem-solving, creative thinking, and big-picture connections occur.

Overworking can deplete mental energy and limit creative capacity. By contrast, purposeful rest—whether through quiet reflection, movement, or stepping into nature—replenishes cognitive resources and opens space for fresh ideas. Some of the world’s greatest thinkers and creators, like Einstein and Edison, credited their breakthroughs to moments of idleness or pause.

Schedule time for renewal:

  • Incorporate short, intentional pauses (5-10 minutes) between meetings or tasks. Use this time for deep breathing, a brief walk, or stretching.
  • Schedule a “think session” where you step away from daily tasks for quiet journaling, planning, or even free-form brainstorming.
  • Take intentional time away from screens, emails, and notifications. Disconnecting temporarily allows mental clutter to clear, making space for innovative thoughts.
  • Ask yourself: What energizes me? What do I need to bring my best self to the new year? Then go to your calendar and block time for what comes to mind.


Create a Shared Vision to Inspire Action. Teams waste energy when goals are unclear, or direction feels uncertain. A shared vision acts as a compass, guiding decisions and fueling momentum. Co-creating the vision with the team (not giving it to them) fosters ownership, accountability, and excitement because people support what they help create. Identify 2-3 energizing priorities that align purpose with performance. This level of focus eliminates ambiguity and energizes teams by focusing their efforts on what truly matters.

Teams don’t rally around a list of tasks—they rally around a purpose that excites them. A compelling vision connects the "what" and "how" of work to the deeper "why."

For example:

  • Instead of saying, “Our goal is to increase revenue by 10% next year,” say, “Next year, we’re going to help 10% more customers solve X problem, making a meaningful difference in their lives.” Purpose transforms metrics into motivation.


Leadership energy is contagious. When you act with intention—celebrating wins, prioritizing renewal, and aligning on purpose—you inspire your team to enter 2025 with clarity and excitement. Small actions today create momentum for tomorrow.
