HOW TO FIND YOUR RIGHT PHOTOGRAPHER.
Herman Chow (周心共鸣)
The entrepreneur who speaks on stage at business networking events that makes people feel seen, heard, and moved becomes the one the audience truly listens to.
Do you hear this often? Everyone is a photographer nowadays because everyone has a mobile phone and a camera. Anyone with a camera can certainly help you in almost every event of your life. But, to say that everyone is a photographer is an overstatement.
Most people have the wrong conception of photographers. They think that all photographers shoot everything. There are photographers who photograph everything under the roof. There are also photographers who specialise in a specific genre, for instance: newborn, portrait, wedding, landscape, lifestyle, product, funeral.
When you look for a photographer for your business, you need to ask yourself this question. "Do you want someone who is a jack of all trades", or "do you want a specialist?"
There are only three reactions to a photograph - "yes", "no" and "WOW."
"WOW is the one you need to go for. If you need a beautiful record of your own portraiture, go with a professional photographer who specialises in a specific genre. Photography is about capturing beautiful moments, so you need to feel happy opening up and feeling relaxed around your chosen photographer. If you are uncomfortable with your photographer, it will show in your final images.
How do you look for the right photographer for your needs:
a) Referrals - Ask your friends/ family who has worked with a good photographer that they can recommend. A good photographer for them may not be a good photographer for you. Remember to check them out.
b) Website - Always check out the photographer's work on their website to see if the style of their work is what you are looking for. If you see a website with only images of newborn babies, this might not be the right photographer for you if you are looking for a product photographer.
c) Meetup/ comfort - Make an appointment with the photographer to discuss the need for your photo shoot. By meeting the photographer in person, you can more or less decide if you like to work with him/ her. If meeting in person is challenging, do a video call.
d) Clarifications - Always ask questions during the meeting. Never assume anything. Show images to the photographer that you like and discuss in detail if your needs can be met, bearing in mind that one of the main reasons for contacting this photographer could be their style of work which you fell in love in the first place.
Other questions you might want to know are:
* how long is the photoshoot
* Is hair/ makeup included
* where is the photoshoot
* the type of pictures you will receive
* How are the pictures sent to you (CD, or digitally, in an album, wall portraits)
* payment
* terms and conditions
Your photoshoot is an investment. So make sure that you have all the answers to your questions.
Happy searching.
