How to Find Your Purpose

If Covid has taught me anything, it’s to quite literally seize the day – we never know when there will be more cases or lockdowns so if an opportunity presents itself to, for example, go on a road trip with no planning or saving in advance.. screw it I’m in!?
On this trip, we started talking about purpose and finding your purpose in life. It can be so stressful to watch other people doing the things they love and doing well while you don’t have a bloody clue what you’re up to with your life.?
IT’S OK!! I have to say this first of all. It’s ok to feel this way. Everyone has either been there or is still there so no matter what you’re seeing on social media or anything I beg you to not relate that back and compare it to yourself.?
Secondly, hey I’ve been there. I’ve been there HARD! I am now doing something I absolutely love and I feel really in my purpose but sorry to disappoint even being in this space I have moments of “WTF am I supposed to do next? All the other life coaches seem to have their shit together! How are they doing so well?! What should I put money into to grow?!! AHH” HA! Yeah. But then, using the tools I coach my clients with, I recentre and ground myself, speak to a mentor or friend, and then we’re all good.?
This struggle is really common with overthinkers as a lot of overthinking is being detached from your true self and also living in a state of comparison and judgement.?
So after speaking with my friend about purpose, I picked up the book I’m reading – A Radical Awakening by Dr Shefali Tsabary – and what was the next chapter? It was all about purpose! Love it. So I would like to share with you a little excerpt from the book.?
“A common belief is that our purpose is something that needs to be found. This is a lie. Our purpose is always within us. What’s missing is not purpose, per se, but our connection to it. This disconnection comes from our inner misalignment right here, right now. As long as we aren’t aligned with the deepest, most authentic aspect of our being in the present moment, we will feel disconnected. As long as we are disconnected, we will be disengaged on some level. As long as we are disengaged, we will not tap into our purpose even though it’s staring us in the face.?
If we are living from our false self, purpose will never be found in the next job or the next relationship. We may find more wealth and status, or greater identification with the roles we play, but once these wear thin we will be back to square one. This is why those vision boards filled with fancy cars, vacations, and homes are a smokescreen—a misguided strategy that takes us further and further from the truth of who we are. Instead of chasing things, places, or people, we need to sit still and go deep within to ask: Is who I am in alignment with my most natural self? Is what I’m doing right now a match for how I truly feel??

Let’s remove the superficialities from our vision boards and replace them with these pivotal questions:?
When we focus on these pivotal self-growth questions day in and day out, our intention and attention shift from finding something on the outside to fulfill us to searching deep within. As we go inward and shift away from people, places, and situations that cause us to become inauthentic and toward those that make us more authentic, we automatically enter a greater alignment with ourselves. Now, from this place of inner alignment, making an egg, cleaning our child’s diaper, or singing a song all feel purposeful. The real ingredient of purpose turns out to be engagement and connection, which we cannot have without authenticity.

So what can you takeaway from this into your life now??
I highly recommend any practice that helps you to become more mindful and present in your life, it really does wonders. Before I achieved this state of being, I was like “yeah, right” and now I’m a huge advocate for it – go figure!?
