How to Find Your Authentic Leadership Voice

How to Find Your Authentic Leadership Voice

I’m so excited to talk to you about a topic close to my heart: How to Find Your Authentic Leadership Voice.

I believe God has given each of us a unique, authentic leadership voice, but it can be challenging to find it, especially at the beginning of our coaching journeys. Here's a story from my own experience:

When I was launching my podcast, Sales Strategies for Christian Coaches, I was so nervous and wanted it to be likable. I started imitating other people, but a friend pointed out, "It doesn’t sound like you" He was right—I wasn't being myself, and it changed the way he received me.

The Common Mistake:

Many of us make the mistake of trying too hard to sound like someone else. Whether it's on sales calls, coaching calls, or podcast interviews, we push ourselves to be liked, but it ends up sounding inauthentic.

Lessons Learned:

  • Don’t Imitate: It's okay to learn from others, but blend their strategies with your own voice. For instance, I tried to be like Jake Merriman on sales calls, but only when I infused my own style did I achieve real success.
  • Be Aware: Recognize when you're forcing yourself to sound a certain way. Your voice should reflect confidence and authenticity.
  • Different Voices for Different Situations: It's natural to have different tones for different contexts—coaching calls, church, family time. Each can be authentically you.

Practical Steps to Find Your Voice:

? Practice: The best way to get good at finding your voice is to practice. This means more sales calls, Facebook Lives, and podcast interviews.

? Self-Reflection: Take a moment to jot down the characteristics of your authentic leadership voice. Is it calm, direct, bold, compassionate?

? Pray: Ask God to help you unlock your authentic leader. Communicate with influence, love, and service in a way that is genuinely you.

? Start Small: Begin with small steps like speaking more in your daily interactions or joining a local group.

? Feedback Loop: Seek feedback from trusted friends or colleagues to understand how your voice is perceived.

? Embrace Imperfection: It's okay to sound nervous or scared at first. Authenticity comes with practice.

Remember… Finding your authentic leadership voice requires accepting yourself, your flaws, your mistakes, and your skills. Your voice is a muscle, make sure you are exercising it, using it, and sharing the message God put in your heart.

I hope this inspires you to embrace your authentic leadership voice. Remember, your ideal clients are looking for someone who communicates just like you.?

This resonates deeply. Being authentic is your biggest differentiator in a world of sameness. When clients work with you, they're not buying a polished version - they're investing in your unique perspective and lived experience.
