"LinkedIn isn't Facebook!" — a phrase I've encountered all too often on this platform over the years.
It tends to come from a special group of ultra-professionals, the so-called 'LinkedIn police'. While they rarely contribute original content themselves, they're quick to cast judgement on those who dare to infuse a touch of personal life into their posts. ????
But recently, there's been a LOT buzz in the LinkedIn air about the content we create and share.
Should it be strictly professional, purely personal, or a mix of both?
Spoiler alert, this post has a mix of BOTH...??
If you've been part of my network for a while, you know that I've always been a big advocate for content that shows your unique personality. It's what allowed me to build my network and establish a personal brand. Without that, I never would have been able to launch my own consulting business.
On that note, we just got back from an 8-day Royal Caribbean cruise and it was pretty awesome. Aruba was especially????.
But now, LinkedIn seems to be signaling a shift towards more professionally-grounded content. And while it's crucial to pay attention to these signals, I'm convinced that there's room for balance, a blend of the personal and the professional that lets your unique personality shine through while delivering tangible value to your audience.
After all, people connect with people, not nameless, faceless entities spouting technical jargon. When we share our stories, our struggles, our triumphs - our lives - we create connections that can lead to real opportunities.
But here's the thing…
Personal doesn't have to mean irrelevant! We can create deeply personal content that still holds professional value. We can share our journeys, our lessons, and our insights in a way that helps our networks navigate their own professional paths.
Yes, I share valuable tips and strategies - but I always try to infuse them with my personality and perspective. It's a balancing act, sure, but one that enriches the LinkedIn experience.
On the value side of things, here are 5 Proven Tips for Creating LinkedIn Content That Wins Clients in 2023 . ??
Now, I'd love to hear your thoughts.?Do you struggle to find a balance between personal and professional in your content? Do you think there's a place for personal stories in the LinkedIn ecosystem??

1 年Hi Anthony, LinkedIn isn't just for professional networking - it's a place to show our authentic selves too. both of these elements overlap. Adding personal touches to our posts is okay, and can make us stand out.
