Did you even know there was a secret message in your banner?
The cover photo above shows what you might see on a smart device when looking at my profile. If you were seeing my header on your laptop/desktop computer this is what you would see:
So far, so good. Now let's see what my profile looks like when viewed in 'GROUPS,' the app for quick and expanded use in groups. First I will go to a group that I am in and select view profile (still within the app.) This is what pops up:
If you click on View Full Profile you get back to one of the first two images depending on whether you are on your PC/Mac (the second image) or your smart phone. Now for the secret reveal which you can only find on your smart device... The feet that you see in the image above are hidden by my head shot. Put your finger on my head shot and drag down the face of your phone's screen, and look what happens, the feet in the hot tub suddenly and unexpectedly pop into view and expand in size:
pulling down a little bit and we see this...
and if we keep pulling down we come to this...
and if we pull down to as far as it will let us go before bouncing the image closed again and back to the top, we see this...
Magic!
When setting up your own page, through trial and error, you can use the 'Me' menu on your phone. Not to further confuse you, this is an older page that I had been using.
It shows you what others saw when I had this profile banner in use. Below you can see the sales message before you use the pull-down secret feature by placing your thumb on my face...
and now you can see the hidden secret message...

This feature could be used as follows. Let's say Library Pub in Omaha (www.LibraryPubOmaha.com) wanted to tie in a promotion to entice new business people to come into the bar, they could hide a buy 1 get 1 offer that would only show when the prospect did a pull-down of their logo. The new patron would show this to the bartender to get the discount.
This little ad space could be used to give your web address and a reason for people to visit it. The marketing possibilities are endless.
Now let's look at some other examples:
and now you can see what the entire image looks like...
An example of a nice banner that was partially hidden until exposed:
But keep in mind that these are all on the phone. Fatima's image, at the time this was written, shows a logo concept that I designed for a non-profit that she gives much of her time to. On the desktop/laptop version you can see the whole thing...
but on the phone only a portion of this will show...
and now here is a newly created panel complete with secret pull down area to pop up into view for Fatima's charitable cause...
My original LinkedIn mentor and good friend Marlina uses this concept well...
as seen in the app called 'Groups.' Below you can see her face partially in view in the background. It appears as if she has her hair up in a stylish wrap around a hair decoration device....
and after the pull down the center of the picture gets much closer in view, hiding the original sides of the image. Now we can see that on top of her head, where there appeared to be a hair-do, is a tiny man appearing out of her head (Tomas Bill from Australia)... Magic.
If you take a tall image for your banner only a slice of it will show...
but once it is expanded out, like in this example, more branding can be seen...
This type of marketing can help your brand to become very successful. The best of all possible worlds is to have a banner
-
that looks great when viewed in desktop mode
-
yet still sends a message across on your smart device
-
and has the secret, hidden message, picture, etc.
