How To Find A New Job Faster

Here’s how to find a new job faster:

Network with everyone you can.

Become more involved in your industry and community.

Team up cooperatively with a non-competitive friend who also wants to find a new job (but different from what you are seeking).

Join a job-hunting support group.

Use LinkedIn’s Jobs tab as well as utilize its advanced search functionality to find inside connections, tap into fellow alumni and even previous your co-workers.

Target firms you know you would like to work for and begin talking to employees inside them.

Let everyone know that you are looking.

Consult the leading job search engines to search for jobs across the Internet and set up job alerts on them as well as on Google.

Find jobs also on niche job sites focused on a specific industry or career field.

Also search local job sites that list jobs in a city, region, or state.

Make sure your profile concisely & compellingly says what you want them know & clearly states that you're the best person for the job.

Create a profile that demonstrates a clear & concise picture of you & what you are going to bring to the position.

Fill out every section.

Convey your top accomplishments & results you’ve achieved as quantitatively as you can.

Get others to endorse your top skills.

Ask others to write you a recommendation.

Use a great professional photo in which you are smiling.

Customize your URL.

Avoid jargon & buzzwords. use keywords.

Search out & invite your former bosses, co-workers, professional colleagues & friends to join your network.

Connect with recruiters & hiring managers.

Use the jobs tab in your search efforts.

Follow employers you wish to be employed by & seek connections in those places.

Look for people rather than jobs such as a recruiter or hiring manager and reach out to that person directly.

Look for companies rather than jobs.

Find successful growing companies likely to need someone with your skills, and then find people at those companies.

Become a skilled LinkedIn search power user.

Have a high-quality professional head shot.

Have a headline that makes it easy for someone evaluating your profile to quickly figure out what you do, that readily distinguishes you from other people who do the same things

Give your profile great readability.

Have a short summary section highlighting your main qualifications and accomplishments.

Do the same with regard to your current and past positions.

Utilize short sentences or bullet points.

Favor nouns over adjectives.

Provide numbers whenever possible.

Make sure your profile contains the words hiring personnel are looking for.

Remain that way throughout your job search.

Surround yourself with positive persons.

Never hesitate to make your job search public (unless you are already employed).

Be sure to take a break every now and then to recharge your job search batteries.

Be very self-assured and self-confident.

Be highly engaging.

Always send a thank-you note promptly right after any job interview.

Always follow-up right after any job interview.

Choose the right references but never present them until requested to do so.

Be sure you always look your best from head to toe!

Research each firm or organization before you go for its interview, dress appropriately, practice answering and asking interview questions, and always make an effort to impress the interviewer with your skills, experience, and confidence.

Become highly informed about each organization, firm, industry and position for which you are applying.

Establish yourself as a thought leader in your desired industry, network with professionals who may geographically be out of your reach, interact with companies that are hiring and establish your personal brand.

Have more than one inside contact at each targeted employer.

Always follow-up with interviewers to find out where they are in the process and if they need any more information from you.

Double check their time line, and remind them you will reach out if you don't hear within that timeline.

Stay in touch with persons you interviewed with to show your interest.

Be sure your profile is robust, with sections completely filled in, key words used and even embedded media and files included.

Join 100 LinkedIn groups and become active in the key ones for your career.

Grow your networks.

Use LinkedIn’s advanced search functionality to locate inside connections, fellow alumni and even previous colleagues.

Also use advanced search options on all job boards.

Instead of spending most of your time and energy obsessing over jobs posted on job boards, try targeting firms that have previously posted jobs or companies you know you would like to work for.

Try to get referrals from employees inside those firms.

Attend a job fair.

Build up your resume.

Put accomplishments, achievements and results at the top of your resume.

Show employers what you’ve done.

Discover as much as you can about each firm and its open positions prior to any job interview.

Prepare thoroughly for each job interview.

Optimize your social media profiles for all search engines.

Make it easy for recruiters to find you and connect with you.

Create resumes and social media profiles that truly stand head-and-shoulders above those of your competition.

Expand your networking circles.

Never lose faith in the face of rejection, but learn from each rejection and adjust your searching accordingly.

If need be, find a stopgap job.
