How To Find A Job Within 3 Months.
Looking for a new job? If you're only applying to job advertisements, you're not doing it right. Here's our 5-Step Process on how to do it properly.
Be warned: this is a very detailed process. But if you're seriously looking to utilise your network, and face less competition in your job search, this is what you should do.
Let's get into it.
1. How To Map.
You can get free recruitment CRMs online, but it might be easier to use these Excel columns:
Contact / Connection Of / Company / Role / Stage 1 / Stage 2 / Stage 3 / Salary / Benefits / Rank / Notes
Map your (min.) 5 considerations in a new job, i.e., Salary, Manager, Location, etc.
Using a 1-5 scale, rate all companies you meet. Put this under "Rank". Give double points to your main consideration. If employed, rank your current company.
2. Preparation.
I suggest you do this for 1 hour every evening, and leave 1 hour every lunchtime for interviews (double your research at first, as you won't have any interviews).
Write a list of job titles for your potential boss. Start with the most senior (”Cyber VP”) and work down. Think about other ways it could be written (”VP Cyber”, “Cybersecurity VP”, “Cyber Security VP”, “VP of Cybersecurity”, etc.). This will be a big list.
Learn Boolean searching , it's easy. Speech marks and brackets will be needed.
Go through a different network every week:
Week 1: Friends & Family
Week 2: Ex-colleagues & ex-classmates
Week 3: Business contacts
Week 4+: Outside of your network
3. Building The Search.
List 25 Friends & Family who can help your search. Before reaching out, go to LinkedIn. This is how to do it using the Free/Premium version of LinkedIn. Try to get to 25 at each stage, it will mean you have more warmer introductions.
In the Search bar, type your first search, i.e., “VP Cyber”. <Enter>. Click <all filters>. <Filter Only People>. Choose your target location. Put in Friend 1’s name under <connections of>. <Enter>.
Are they connected to a “VP Cyber” in your location? Write that name down. You’re building your list. Bear in mind, your Friend/Family may not know this person. It doesn’t matter. You want as many contacts as possible.
(Some people turn this feature off, but most don't. You may need to play around with it. If they do, you won't be able to see any of their connections. Instead, find the "VP Cyber", etc., in their current / previous company).
Repeat for all job titles. With all other Friends’ names.

4. Making Contact.
Once Week 1 is complete:
5. Consistency.
Repeat this with your other networks. Then map contacts outside your network. You’ll be more confident reaching out to people by Week 4.
By the end of 4 weeks, you will have contacted (min.) 100 contacts, 75 of which know you. If each of those people can refer you to 1 person, that's 75+ networking opportunities.
If you don't have 75 warm contacts, then just find more contacts outside of your network — but you want 100.
Someone. Will. Have. A. Job.
And you won’t be competing with other candidates.
This is a long process. It will take time — and you need to be consistent.
You want a structure where you're looking for work and researching tomorrow's interview in the evenings. Then one interview the next lunchtime. Repeat. It may take 2+ weeks for your interviews to start. 4 weeks of work should mean you find a job within the next 3 months.
I suggest you continue searching until you receive a job offer. If you do this properly, you should have multiple offers.
