Do you have a plan? How to find a job in a startup??
As early professionals, most nurture a dream of working in a startup. Yet landing a job that they want is a challenge.
But here is the question - Are you doing it right? When done right, that itself may set you ahead in the race.??????
There is no sure fire way to landing your first startup job, but here is a brief on what you can do for better chances.
? Step 1 -?Understand what you are looking for
Here, you must be asking yourself 3 things:
#1 ?? What type of work do you want to do??
Understand that no job is tailored for you. There is no perfect fit, only the best fit. And for all I know, you too may not know what you are looking for too early. But then, it helps to start somewhere.
#2 ?? What industry would like you to work in??
Are you particular about brands? Are you looking for a particular kind of work? Do you like the work some companies do??You will be vague in the beginning. All of us are. But clarity will set in and your search will refine over time.
#3 ??Another important question - Have you thought about the size of the company?
Do you want a safe and predictable workplace? Do you want all the systems in place? Hate having to deal with uncertainty every day? Then go for the large ones. Are you a go-getter? Want no two days alike? Like to play the unpredictable turf? Wonderful! Go for an early startup.
Want to have the best of both worlds? Go for a mid sized company. With no experience, a big company may be a good choice, but you may never be near the top anytime soon.
? Step 2?- Make a list of companies
???????Create a spreadsheet.?
??????? Make a list of companies.?

??Maybe you can browse AngelList or Crunchbase and find interesting companies. Create a list of these companies.??
??? ??Create columns for location, size, and job listings (if there are any). Keep updating this list as you come across new companies.
? Step 3 -?Cold email
????The CEO’s email address is going to be [first-name]@[company website], and chances are it gets the attention of the CEO every single day.?
??????Use a free tool like https://verify-email.org/ to check if that email address is valid. Send them a short email containing:
??????????#1 - An interesting subject line?
??????????#2 - Who you are (1 sentence)
??????????#3 - Why you love what they do (1 sentence)
???????????#4 - How you're going to contribute (1 sentence)
If emailing the CEO doesn't work, try emailing others. What do you have to lose?
? Step 4 -?Work for cheap
Getting your foot in the door is most important at this stage. Get in there and then you can work your way around. Don't let a small pay bother you - not in the beginning. As long as the job gives you a good learning experience, it is worth it. As long as your pay is greater or equal to cost of living, you're still in a good place. Even starting off on a contract basis is not a bad idea.
? Step 5 -??Hustle
Add value on week one. Work very hard. Prove your worth to your team.
That good enough for a start? Try these for the next six months and you will see a new path ahead of you.
