Amid massive layoffs, it can feel daunting to look for new opportunities.
But certain strategies can boost your search.?
I have developed the Wheel of Job Search for my clients to regain a sense of control and laser focus on what matters.?
It is a simple, but powerful tool that helps them visualize all the important areas of career search at once.
To create your own wheel of job search, start answering the following questions. Then, assess yourself from 1 (huge need to work on it!) to 10 (rock star) for each area.?
1. Professional Goals
- How clear are you with your short-term goals? Long-term career goals?
- How is your targeted industry performing??
- What other industries are you a good fit for??
- What transferrable competencies could you leverage in a new industry?
2. CV
- Does your CV show measurable results from your previous experiences? Ensure it showcases transferable competencies backed up with quantifiable achievements.
- Is your CV?ATS-friendly??Recruiters use ATS, or Applicant Tracking System, to test how suitable your application is for the role.

4. Elevator Pitch
- How do you tell your story in?30 seconds??
- Use my favorite method:
- Present?: Introduce yourself: your name and job title. If there’s an opportunity to elaborate, you can also share a current project or your expertise.
- Past: Add two or three points about your background and credibility. Consider your education, past projects, employers, and accomplishments.
- Future:?Demonstrate?enthusiasm for what’s ahead. Share your eagerness about the opportunity. Express interest in what the person is setting out to?accomplish.
5. Networking

- Do you engage on LinkedIn to expand your network? The LinkedIn's algorithm likes engagement with visibility in recruiter and other searches.
- When approaching someone, how do you open the conversation? What commonalities do you have with that person? The more personal it is, the better! It is not?just?about finding a job.
6. Interview
- Are you using the?C.A.R.L?framework when preparing your answers? Not as famous as her sister S.T.A.R but I found it more impactful.?
- C:?What is the?Context??"When I was leading the Business Planning team of a Financial Broker, I was mandated to reduce the trading platform costs.
- A:?What were your?Actions??"I analysed the usage and costs of 50 trading platforms"
- R:?What? Results?did you achieve? "We decommissioned 40 trading platforms resulting in USD 3 M annual savings."
