How to find a job in this current tech market…

The current tech job market is incredibly saturated, with countless individuals competing for the limited number of positions available. It has become increasingly common for job advertisements to receive an overwhelming response, often attracting over 1000 applicants within the first 24 hours alone. This intense competition highlights the challenges faced by job seekers in this industry, as they strive to stand out among a sea of qualified candidates. As a result, securing a tech job has become more challenging than ever before, requiring candidates to showcase exceptional skills, experience, and a unique edge to differentiate themselves from the masses.

Here are five ways you can stand out from the rest and increase your chances of landing that next opportunity…

  1. Build a strong personal brand: Cultivate an online presence that showcases your expertise and professional accomplishments. Create a personal website, maintain an active presence on professional social media platforms, and engage in industry-related discussions.
  2. Network strategically: Attend industry events, join professional organizations, and actively participate in networking opportunities. Building relationships with influential individuals and staying connected with colleagues can provide valuable insights and potential job leads.
  3. Stay updated on industry trends: The latest advancements and trends in the tech industry. This demonstrates your passion, dedication, and willingness to continuously learn and grow in your field.
  4. Be Proactive: Don’t sit around waiting to just hear back from your job applications. Get out there and use the tools available to locate the right hiring managers, talent acquisition member and introduce yourself directly.
  5. Tailor your applications: Customize your resume and cover letter for each job application to highlight relevant skills and experiences. Show how your background aligns with the specific requirements of the position you're applying for.

Isn't curious how quickly the tech sector went from "we can't find enough resources to fulfill the demand" to "we have too many"? I remember reading reports that the tech sector was had 1.5m openings. My belief is that tech businesses are more worried about financial sustainability than product and operations sustainability, so they cut headcount and limp along hoping it won't affect future growth ... but it will. Certainly a rock & hard place scenario, but I have yet to see a business cut their way back to growth. Survival usually incurs additional investment at some point.
