How to Find a Dream Job on LinkedIn?

How to Find a Dream Job on LinkedIn?

When it comes to job applications, you have to think outside the box.?

The problem with using generic approaches is that you end up competing with everyone else who is also submitting to LinkedIn, Indeed, etc. One job post gets roughly 250 applications. That's a lot! And considering 70% of people are unhappy with their jobs, that’s a pool of very motivated job-hunters you are up against.?

My approach aims to find a dream job that most employees ignore. This ensures almost zero competition, helping you secure a job by standing out in a reduced applicant pool.?

Create a List of Companies that Are the Right Fit

Instead of looking for companies who are already posting jobs, find companies where you're willing to work even if they aren't hiring.?

How to Find Them??

Don’t limit your searching methods. Use everything at your disposal:?

- Friends' recommendations

- Google

- YouTube

- LinkedIn

- Facebook.?

Just spend time on your favorite platforms or search systems to create a list of companies you would like to work for. Refrain from filtering companies on the first draft. Just add all companies.?

LinkedIn Navigator, a paid tool, provides an excellent job of filtering out according to choosing metrics:?

- industry

- geography

- annual revenue

- company headcount.

However you decide to do it, create a list of 100 companies. You only need a few columns for the first draft: companies' names and social media accounts, as well as any other metrics you find useful. I use Google Sheets, but you can use Microsoft Excel or anything more suitable for you.?

Filtering

You have the first version. The next step is to remove companies from your list:

- you don't want to work there

- you're not a good fit for them.

Look up the job satisfaction ratings on Glassdoor or check out social media posts about target companies. Research how companies take care of their employees, the salary amount, vacations, medical care, insurance, growth, etc.?

It's also essential to be honest with yourself. Are you a good fit for these companies??

For example, if I'm looking for a job, I would skip Tesla or SpaceX because I don't think Elon Musk is hiring people specializing in SEO. I would also probably remove these companies from the list in the first stage because of low employee satisfaction.?

Google is also not a good fit because my skills are far from Google's requirements.?

No worries if you can't satisfy such big companies, because many other businesses can help you with a dream job.?

Following

Let's imagine you’re left with 20 target companies on your list. Follow them on social media accounts: Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, or other places.?

You don't need to follow everywhere, but choose social media platforms where these companies are more active or have more followers.?

After that, follow the accounts of the decision makers of these companies: CEOs, heads of related departments, and recruiters.?

Leave Comments

Companies or decision-makers post something meaningful for their loyal audience: breaking news, educational content, or polls. Your goal is to comment as much as possible on these posts.?

All your comments should provide the following:

- additional value

- help and support

- honest compliments

- encouragement

- unbiased recommendations

- show how you can help with the growth for these companies

- respect.?

Avoid the following comments:

- criticism

- fluff

- sharing for the sake of commenting

- insulting

- hating

- empty phrases: thanks so much, that was valuable, good stuff.?

How Long Should You Comment?

I can't reply to this question. It depends on many factors, including the quality of your comments, patience, perseverance, and consistency.?

After leaving ten comments, one of my followers told me it didn't work for him. Oh, no way. You can't achieve a dream job even after a bunch of comments.?

This process takes months of commenting and engaging. But the better news is that you can learn more about dream companies after engaging so many times. If you ask me the total number of comments, then my answer is +100 times.?

Give a Solid Reason to Be Hired

Decision-makers read comments because they are interested in what their customers and a loyal audience are talking about them. Therefore, commenting is a great way to win great attention.?

The final stage is to optimize your LinkedIn profile with the following:

- use a high-quality resolution headshot

- write a bio that you're looking for a job in a target niche

- write your story in the about section

- add your experience with growth and achievements

- increase endorsements and recommendations.?

Your LinkedIn should showcase your experience and qualifications, but overdoing it can look self-centered and turn off page viewers. Instead, share how you can help others to become great. Check out my profile or influencers in your niche and what they write about themselves for inspiration.?

Improve Your Skills

Top companies are hiring experts who can teach them how to grow and update products. Apple shares on its website that interns should even teach the wealthiest company how to change the world and make a difference.?

Many recruiters check out how often you grow in existing companies and what kind of certificates or achievements you have. Never stop learning. Never.?

Practice makes miracles. If you learn something, then implement it. You might fail on the first, second, and third attempts. I sometimes fail for a long time to achieve high results in something new, but patience and perseverance can help me to overcome obstacles.?

Share meaningful results and numbers on your profile: grew sales +30%, increased traffic three times, and got +10,000 subscribers to the email list. These figures show empirical proof of your success.?

Believe You Can Because You Can

My methods can't help lazy specialists. So if you keep reading, you're not on this list because most readers would have clicked away by now.?

These methods can help you starting today. Take your time creating a list, filtering it, following companies and decision-makers, but don't procrastinate. Avoid excuses why you can't keep it up every day – remember, consistency is key.?

Let me know in the comments what you're going to implement from my recommendations. I wish you success in finding your dream job.
