How To Find & Attract Ideal Clients You’d Love to “Clone”

The financial industry has put a lot of emphasis on using networking to grow your financial business. (I’m talking about the face-to-face kind. Not the social media kind)

But even pre-pandemic, this was a time-consuming and inefficient strategy

I’m not saying it doesn’t work. I just don’t think it works well for busy women, especially now.

The advice I was given as a financial advisor was to go networking and talk to as many people as possible.

And when I first started... I was a 29 year-old “recovering singer-songwriter.”

I didn’t have much experience.

I looked even younger than I was.

I had no idea what to say.

And finding and attracting Ideal Clients...

Well, as they say in Brooklyn “Fuhgeddaboudit!”  ??

You probably don’t need me to tell you that especially today, this is NOT a good use of your effort, energy, time, and money. Or maybe you do need me to tell you.

??This is NOT a good use of your effort, energy, time, and money.??

Are you wasting time on tire kickers? There’s only so much of YOU to go around, right?

As a woman in the finance industry building your ideal business, you can’t work with everyone; you’ve got to get clear on your who

I’m sure you’ve heard that “the riches are in the niches.”  ??

But, you don’t have to take it that far and “niche” your business, because I know how scary that can sound.

Instead, start by being INTENTIONAL with the effort, energy, time or money you put towards marketing and TARGET a “clone” of one of your best clients.

Because if you’re going to invest resources into getting more people on your calendar, why not intentionally attract the right person? That perfect person you’d love to work with. That client that, if you cloned them 10 times, you would reach your financial goals and be completely fulfilled and happy in your work. ??

Here’s how to start.

First use my quick Ideal Client Test right now.

Pick a client that meets these 3 criteria:

  1. You love working with the person. Check
  2. You provide that person tremendous transformational value. Check
  3. You get paid well for it. Check

That’s your ideal client.  ??

I know you’ve probably heard of “target marketing,” but I think it’s easier—and more efficient—to just find that one person you’d want to clone. Say, it’s “Suzanne,” your ideal client, who passes the three-step test with flying colors.

Imagine your calendar filled with 10 Suzannes.

Imagine that kind of money, that kind of fulfillment, that level of freedom. ??

So, how do you find more Suzanne's? Knocking on doors won’t do it. Cold calling (scary as hell and nobody answers their phones anyway). And there’s not much in-person networking these days (hey, pandemic).

So, what do you do?

Well, there’s this little thing you might have heard of. It’s called the World Wide Web.??

From there, you can go to all different little worlds like LinkedIn, Facebook, Google. And you can search for your Suzanne's, those ideal clients who have the qualities you’re looking for and who need what you have to offer.

Now, obviously, there are so many tips and tricks and ways to dive into this and make it work for you (and I’d love to share them with you!), but this is where you start.

This is how you find your ideal client.

Now, how do you attract your ideal client?

Let me get blunt about your problem.

You're invisible. Nobody knows you exist. But just because you’re invisible right now, that doesn’t say anything about your worth as a female financial advisor.

If everyone you wanted to attract knew how amazing you are, if they knew that by the end of (or during) working with you, they’d have less stress, then they’d be meeting with you right now. If they knew that they'd have more money and more financial freedom after working together, they’d be talking to you right this minute.

If, just by looking at you, they could see your magic power, they could sense that your intention is to serve and care deeply, they’d start working with you instantly.

So, what’s the problem?

They don’t see you.

There’s so much out there. So, what are you doing to set yourself apart from all the noise in the financial industry? You need to stand out—not to everyone, but to the person you truly want to attract. You’ve got to get noticed.

What you need, in order to get their attention is compelling MESSAGING that drives them to want to talk to you.

Messaging is an unknown word in the financial industry and I think it’s EVERYTHING.

Messaging drives beliefs and beliefs drive behaviors (like meeting with you!)

But, to be real with you...crafting compelling messaging is tough. So, the shortcut is having a hook that reels the right people in, so you are seen as an expert. ??

This is my absolute favorite thing to share with the women I work with.
