Are you getting unwanted data in your Google Analytics (GA) reports from yourself due to testing or from the office? It is possible to block this traffic, and it should be a default in every master GA view. In this post, I will show you how you can do it, just for yourself as well as for your company. But first, what is a GA Master view?
A Google Analytics Master view, is the view that you will read your data from. The Master View is where you have the ideal strucuture in place that meets your Company's needs in terms of retriving data and analytics.
PS: Remember to always have an "All data view" / unfiltered view in GA. Keep in mind that the steps in this article are done in the master view or "test view".
Navigate to Google Analytics, Press the admin (gear icon) then, make sure you have selected your master view, then press filters.
Furthermore, click "add a filter" and select the same as I have done below:
To find tour IP Adress, go to google and search for "my IP address" and it will pop up! Copy it and paste it into the empty field.
IP's and Companies
If you know your IP address range or your IP address is static then you can implement a GA structure for this. By going to the custom tab, you can implement regular expressions as well.
Moreover, filtering it out via the browser can be done with plugins like Chostery for instance.
PS: You sould always test this in a test view, retrive data and then if everything is working properly, then execute the same process for the master view.
