How Ferring Pharmaceuticals mastered a milestone on the path to digital manufacturing
Ferring Pharmaceuticals went for a change in their way of working at their site in Kiel, Germany, with the introduction of Electronic Batch Recording (EBR). Visiting us in Karlsruhe, they explained why this was a crucial step for digital transformation.
Hartwig H?nerloh may hardly remember the days before Electronic Batch Recording came into his life. "Our biggest challenge was a lot of errors in the paper documentation. And this documentation is going forward and backward inside the company, inside the facility, from one department to the other until final approval".?
The Associate Director of MES Management at Ferring Arzneimittel GmbH can still clearly recall the moment when the production site in Kiel became much more paperless, virtually at the push of a button. "Visual inspection operators told me they never want to turn back to paper – they want to keep Electronic Batch Recording," H?nerloh recounts with a smile on his face.
Saving 100% of typical batch documentation errors
In this project the company was supported by the experienced consulting experts from K?rber. The clear path from paper to EBR had convinced H?nerloh and his team of the collaboration:

Behind this is K?rber's own Process Landscape? methodology – a "powerful tool," as he acknowledges.?The result of introducing EBR: Ferring will save 100% of the typical batch documentation errors in the future.
Impressive and quantified results
He appreciates the strong connection with K?rber and especially with Tim Meyer, team leader on K?rber's side for this project: "When we are transforming from a project into a life cycle, you need to have support from a reliable company and trust in the partnership".
The company will now share other tangible, quantified results it has achieved together with K?rber in a new case study. It's a great insight for pharma manufacturers, who are amid digital transformation themselves and often charged with the complex task of separating Pharma 4.0 buzzwords from real benefits.
Ferring achieved remarkable improvements regarding reduction of batch deviations and further time savings.
