Fear is something we all face, especially when we’re stepping into new territory, pursuing bigger goals, or trying something for the first time.
But the key to success isn’t about avoiding fear—it’s about embracing it and moving forward anyway. In this newsletter, I’m sharing three powerful strategies noted by Jack Canfield that can help you take action, despite fears.
Let’s explore how you can remember your strengths, reframe your mindset, and realize that fear is often just an illusion.
Remember Your Wins: You’ve Overcome Before, and You Can Again
When fear starts to hold you back, it’s easy to forget just how much you’ve already accomplished. But take a moment to reflect on your past successes. Maybe it was speaking up when you felt unsure, starting something new, or taking a risk that paid off. These moments prove that you’ve faced fear before and come out stronger.
Each of those wins was a step outside your comfort zone, and they show you’re capable of more than you think. By reminding yourself of these victories, you build confidence and reinforce the fact that you can handle whatever comes next. Fear might try to cloud your judgment, but your past triumphs are evidence that you’ve already got what it takes to succeed.
Reframe Fear: Shift Your Focus to What’s Possible
Fear thrives on negative thoughts, but the good news is you control your perspective. A powerful way to dissolve fear is to change how you think about it. Instead of dwelling on worst-case scenarios, ask yourself, "What if everything goes right?" What if this opportunity opens doors you hadn’t even imagined? By shifting your mindset from fear to possibility, you gain the courage to take action.
Most of the time, the things we’re afraid of are far less frightening once we confront them. By focusing on potential success instead of failure, you can quiet the fear and start making progress. Fear is natural, but it doesn’t have to control your decisions. When you reframe it, you turn fear into fuel for growth.

Fear: Fantasized Experiences Appearing Real
One of the most freeing realizations is that fear is often just a story we tell ourselves. Psychologists say that fear is?Fantasized Experiences Appearing Real. In other words, most of our fears are based on imagined outcomes, not actual danger. Think about how often you’ve worried about something that never came to pass.
When you recognize that fear is just a product of your imagination, you can stop giving it so much power. Instead, focus on the facts and reality. Ask yourself, “Is this fear based on anything real?” If not, let it go. The more you challenge your fears, the more you’ll find that they lose their grip on you.
Feel the Fear and Take Action Anyway
Fear will always be part of the journey, but it doesn’t have to stop you from reaching your goals. The secret is learning to act?despite?the fear. Every time you face fear head-on, you grow stronger and more resilient. Whether you take small steps or giant leaps, each move forward helps you overcome your fear.
A true story
In my workshops I often hold up a £5 note and say "who wants this?" Loads of hands go up but no-one actually comes forward and takes it from me, why? Often because they are worried and frightened about coming forward in front of everyone else (fear takes over).
The point of the exercise is for someone to feel the fear of getting up in the group when no-one else will to get what they want. To feel the fear and do it anyway. Then they get the £5!
Remember the victories you’ve already achieved, shift your focus to the possibilities ahead, and realize that most fears are just imagined. As you practice this, you’ll build momentum, confidence, and a deeper belief in your ability to succeed. Keep your intentions high but stay open to the journey—it often leads to something even better than you imagined.
