My father was always in business for himself.
He was a contractor in London. And even before that, before he left the west of Ireland in 1956 with with very little financial resources, even when he worked in on the farm in Mayo; he was the first guy to go out there building haysheads for other people.
He was always in business for himself. So I guess I took inspiration from my father.
And I remember he said to me, (I can't even remember how old I was, I might have been 7, 8, 9, 10 years of age.) He said something very critical.
He said that in his observation of people, if they haven't made it financially by age 40, they never do. Which makes perfect sense when you think about it,
Because if you haven't become an entrepreneur between age 20 and 40, you're probably in a job and you get almost like institutionalised in a job, and then that's what you just look forward to, your retirement at age 60.
And that's why if you study the statistics, 95% of people on this planet at age 65 are either dead or they're broke simply because they never got round to being in business for themselves, never got round to understand the concept that money can work for you as well as you work for money.
Those words from my father were a defining moment.
And I realized at age 36, when I came across this concept, I was in a job, I was working for a company, a salmon firm, and they decided when I would come to work, when I would go home, what holidays I could take, et cetera.

And so when I came across the stock market, I said, well, finally, this is a vehicle that there's nothing in my way.
It's about not who you know, there's no barriers to entry into the stock market.
It is actually the truest level playing field I've seen on the planet, because it's just you in the market. And some would say how you perform in the market is almost a mirror of it's like holding up a mirror to yourself, as we said earlier, is that if you can master your emotions, you will master the market.
So if you're someone that is very nervous and fearful of everything, and very hesitant and uncertain and almost what do they call it?
Like an analysis by paralysis or paralysis by analysis or a perfectionist, as it were, that's you.
And if you bring that to the stock market, you're probably not going to not going to do that well, because you're always nervous about the market.
Because the one thing I can tell you about the market, it changes every day.
There's never two days the same in the market market, and there's never a dull day in the market.
The fact that I finally found a vehicle that it didn't matter my age, my profession, my creed, my culture.
Just me in the market.
How about you? How far are you on the way to mastering your emotions?
