How Fast We Change
On a bright Fall day, 11 September, 2011, America lost 2,771 citizens to a form of warfare never before experienced within our borders.
Then, we had a firm focus on what we believed in as a Nation and a clear vision of what was needed to limit any future occurrence.
Today, we have abjectly failed. We have lost our cohesion as a Nation and significant portions of our population actively campaign to eliminate or denigrate what brought us together that day.
When the original 9/11 happened, we flew flags from every bumper and field.
Today, we freely burn it as a gesture of dislike for some policy or program.
Then, we stood transfixed to the TV watching a group of fire fighters raise the flag on the rubble of the World Trade Center.
Today, in many parts of the inner city, police are needed to protect firemen doing their job.
Then, we raised the flag as a symbol of solidarity as one Nation.
Today, some intentionally dis-respect the flag to satiate their personal viewpoints-Me first.
Then, the Nation offered prayers public and private.
Now, praying is tested as a legal offense.

Then, we learned about something called Islamo-fascist terrorists and said we would eradicate it from the earth.
Now, any mention of that phrase makes the speaker a racist xenophobic hate monger.
Then, we learned that several of the terrorists were illegal entrants or had over-stayed their visas. We vowed to fix that enforcement loophole.
Now, any attempt to deport illegals or limit entrants, brings immediate wrath in both the courts and streets.
Then, we vowed to find and deport any illegal personnel within our borders and asked all appropriate people to assist in that effort.
Now we have sanctuary cities that openly condone illegal immigrants and flout Federal law.
Then, we identified certain nation’s as harboring terrorists and incapable of managing or assisting background checks by our immigration personnel.
Now, we condemn any attempt to limit immigration from any country, regardless of its classification.
Then, we asked the government to develop new methods to counter the technological expertise of the terrorists within our own borders.
Today, we have the major cell fone manufacturer vowing to deny any assistance to law enforcement regarding cellphones of criminals, while deliberately providing that capability to its primary Chinese manufacturer.
Then, we had a moral compass pointing to the National direction.
Today, it just spins.
Great reflection piece between what took place just 24 years ago. We, as a people and a country, were unified and steadfast in our resolve to never let this happen again. Now, as you correctly state, that unification and resolve have dissolved into tribal politics and our moral compass is spinning wildly out of control. Thank you for your guidance and leadership at the RTB! I never did get that haircut that you wanted me to get but I did serve our country for 26 years. RLTW!!!
