How Far Can You Go?
I am very fortunate in my role to meet some amazing people. People who write books are generally very, very interesting. They have a story to tell.
On occasion I meet someone who really stands out, and John Maclean is one such individual. He just spoke at our Dymocks Lit Lunch, and I had the very great privilege to meet him and to listen to his story. He is an inspirational Australian!
It is not so much for me that fact that he was the first wheelchair athlete to complete the Ironman World Championships in Kona, Hawaii. Nor the fact that he was also the first paraplegic to swim the English Channel. Not even, the fact that today, through a radical therapy programme and through the retraining of his mind, he is now able to stand and walk again! It is his incredibly positive mindset and absolute belief that through positive self-talk and attitude, you can change outcomes!
For me, that is a foundation of all great business leaders. They have the absolute belief that they can make a difference and change the path of their business. They have the resilience to keep going when others give up. Just like John when he wanted to stop at Kona, but kept going. The pain will be quickly forgotten, but the achievement of finishing will never leave!
An inspirational Australian, if you have the chance to hear him speak, I encourage you to do so. His book new book has just been released, and I encourage you to have a look. How Far Can You Go?
