How to Fail Your Job Interview

How to Fail Your Job Interview

Want to fail your job interview? Ask too many questions. ??

When I hit the job market in 2000, fresh out of college, I struggled to get hired.

It took me 5 months and 22 job interviews to land a position (and even then, it was a stretch).

Part of the problem might have been that I was interviewing for entry-level positions, but had an exit-level mentality: I was too entrepreneurial.

They wanted someone who would get the job done. Someone who would fit in, and not ask too many questions.

Today’s job market is different.

It’s still true that you need to be able to ace interviews.

And to do that, you need to know which questions employers are asking what types of responses they’re looking for.

But the culture has changed. The pandemic, the Great Resignation, and global supply chain shortages have combined –?and exploded everything we thought we knew about working and finding work.

The job seeker is now in the driver’s seat.

In this new world, job seekers have a role to play in interviews. They can interview their interviewers. It’s totally fine – even expected – for candidates to show up at an interview with questions prepared.

To that end, we’ve been working (or playing?) hard at Lensa on a job interview simulation that I think you’ll enjoy.

It’s more fun than any job interview I’ve ever been on. But it’s also a learning opportunity.

Can you ace the interview?

Try it and find out:?

Interviews are often a pretend game. I am hardly genuinely enthusiastic or passionate about the company or activity unless it is my dream job. I am great at pretending to be all those things which is why I have been successful so far.
