There are several similarities between a regular interview and an international interview. However,?preparation is the key to success. Preparation gives confidence and with confidence comes more opportunities. This can be done with proper research about the company or the organization that one is trying to get accepted in, and learning more about the work, values, and history of the organization. This basic knowledge about the organization can help you provide solutions to the recruiter’s problems. There are some basic questions that are frequently asked in every interview and one has to familiarize themselves with these questions so that they can speak freely in an interview. The basic questions include:

  1. Introduce yourself/ tell us something about yourself.
  2. What do you consider to be your strengths and weaknesses?
  3. What is it that makes you better than any other person sitting out there?
  4. Why should we hire you? What value additions would you make to our Company?
  5. What do you expect from this job?
  6. What can you offer to this company/organization?
  7. What makes you unique apart from your qualifications?

Preparing for these commonly asked questions will help you focus on the more difficult questions that are likely to be asked in the course of the interview.

Learning the organization's values and history is quite important for an international job interview. Every organization has its unique culture and its own rules and part of the score may depend on the ability to practice such rules. The key difference is the perception of time.?Organizations in the US, Switzerland, Germany, Britain, Austria, etc. believe in a linear and monochromic schedule i.e. one thing to be done at a time with a fixed schedule.?However, the Southern European Countries believe in a multi-active role i.e. more things to be done at a time with no such time frame.?This helps to know the difference and utilize it for your own benefit.

Proxemics mean a preferred amount of space that an individual would like to have around them. This is important because it allows you to know how close you should stand or sit from your employer throughout the interview. One should know how the culture perceives social space, personal space, and intimate space. Americans tend to require more personal space than Latin Americans or Europeans. This will help you respect your potential employer's culture and impress him or her with your cultural awareness.

Language:

For an international job prospect, it is likely that the recruiter shall try to make sure that you are fluent in the company's native language. This directly affects the success of your interview. Before the interview begins, the candidate must make sure that their fluency level is adequate for the desired position. The interviewer may take the interview in the company's native language, which will be an excellent test of fluency of the language for the candidate. Also, it is good to prepare for the interview questions in the appropriate language.

At very first sight an international job interview is quite a task, however, it can be dealt with a little preparation. Good preparation like proper research and practice will make you confident and help calm your nerves which in turn will show the recruiter that you are a strong, passionate candidate. A great interview will increase your chances of landing your dream international job.
