How Experts Still Can Have the Competitive Advantage In the Era of Chat GPT and?AI

It’s smarter than you. It’s faster than you. And it is (mostly) free.

AI will certainly become mainstream in every industry this year.

ChatGPT’s ability to generate a massive amount of quality content with one click has astounded the world. And we are instantly addicted.

Content creation, essays, and studies will never be the same.

Why think, write, or do when the computer knows best?

Educators, Marketers, Writers, and many professionals will be impacted by AI this year. And it won’t always be a good thing for them. Many are worried about their jobs. After all, you can’t beat a computer. Or can you?

What Is?ChatGPT?

Before I go further, I want to explain to those who are living under a rock what this new software is, who developed it and owns it, and what it can do.

ChatGPT (Chat Generative Pre-trained Transformer)[1] is a chatbot launched by San Francisco-based company, OpenAI, in November 2022. Open AI started off in 2015 as a non-profit research laboratory financed by Elon Musk, Sam Altman, Peter Thiel, Reid Hoffman, Jessica Livingston, Ilya Sutskever and others, who collectively pledged US$1 billion. Since then, they have transitioned to a “capped” for-profit, with the profit capped at 100 times any investment. Elon Musk resigned from the board in 2018 but is still a supporter. In January 2023, Microsoft confirmed a $10 billion investment in the firm.?

While it has been free to use so far, a paid version called ChatGPT Pro was announced in early 2023 for USD $42 for certain users but is not generally available to the public yet. According to those who were able to upgrade to the paid Pro, it offers unlimited searches, faster response times, and priority access.

Getting Started With?ChatGPT?

You’ll need to create a log in. You can conveniently log in with your Google account.?

ChatGPT has a very simple interface where a user can enter any question and it will answer in very natural language.

Using ChatGPT feels like having a conversation with a?genius.

It can write code, poems, essays, movie scripts, translate languages, and much more. In a mere matter of seconds. No wonder it is taking over the Internet.

Ironically, it does not have access to the Internet. Therefore, it can only provide answers based on data it was built on, which came from books, articles, and more sources written by humans, which is why the answers sound very ‘human-like’. But it can also provide wrong answers, so while it is impressive, it is not 100% reliable.

Can I trust that ChatGPT is telling me the truth?
What Are the Popular Questions People Ask You?

Here is the answer I received:

Some of the most popular questions people include me include:

Then I asked it another key question:

What can't you do?

Here is the answer I received to that one:

Some of the most popular questions I receive are:

It doesn't know current news past 2021:

Who is the current president of the United States?

Next, for the million-dollar question:

What do you know about Krista Mollion?

Yes, my ego was a bit bruised by that one but it goes to show that ChatGPT can’t do everything (and maybe, it is time for me to invest in PR)!?

Is ChatGPT Better Than?Google?

No, it is different. The advantages ChatGPT has over Google are:

  1. It doesn’t run ads at all so the answers are “promoted”, which generally means you can get the best answer first, not only ones that paid for keyword placement.?
  2. It gives you the answer directly. Compare that to a Google search results page where you need to make the decision about which of the website links to click on and then scroll through those, looking for your best answer.
  3. It is much faster than Google to get to what you need.
  4. You can have conversations with ChatGPT, so if you previously asked it about burritos, it will remember, and in your next question, you don’t have it repeat the topic. For Google, every search must start over.

But….

I do see how I would not give up Google anytime soon because:

  1. Google crawls the web daily updating the results pages with the most current answers. I love having fresh data. Compare that to ChatGPT which was built offline based on information up until only 2021. See my point?
  2. Google tells me the sources of the information so if I am writing an article or researching a topic, I can validate if this is a good source or not plus site them in my article. Furthermore, I often discover more interesting content on those websites. Since ChatGPT just pits out an answer, I have no idea if this is truthful nor where they got it from, and I can’t see if the source had more related content I would have loved.
  3. Google helps me discover people, places, and businesses that I need. ChatGPT is not reliable and not current on those topics.
  4. Google provides billions of resources whereas ChatGPT is based on a limited database that could be wrong or outdated.
  5. Google gives you variety and options, whereas ChatGPT is biased.

The Dangers of?ChatGPT

Obviously, people will use it the wrong way! That is inevitable. Luckily, ChatGPT has built in a couple of features to reduce this problem.?

When I ask it any ‘unethical’ question, it is designed to not help.

Example:

How Can I Cheat on My SAT Exams?

Here is ChatGPT’s answer:

I strongly advise against cheating on exams.

But the dangers are still there. Higher educational institutions are currently in heated discussions on how to prevent students from using ChatGPT to complete writing assignments. This is a new debate so we will see what they come up with.

Another danger is to mistakenly assume what ChatGPT tells you is true. One must always fact-check. The tool is not designed to do that for you.

Lastly, because of the ease and speed of using ChatGTP, there is a legitimate risk that certain individuals will think it replaces content creation, which is does not. On the contrary, in this new era of ChatGPT, it will be even more critical for brands and individuals to find creative ways to stand out from the ‘vanilla’ answers ChatGPT generates.

What Experts Can (and Can’t) Use It?For

ChatGPT has quickly gained popularity for generating content and solving problems but there definitely is a right and wrong way to use it.

I personally have been testing it for approximately two months now and come to a few key conclusions.

Here are ways you shouldn’t use ChatGPT:

  1. To use blindly for facts. (Double-check everything)
  2. To ask about anything current since it only contains data up until 2021
  3. To copy and paste to use for your content
  4. To replace you as a thought leader
  5. To cheat on your exams
  6. To look up current news
  7. To ask too general questions (Be specific for better results)
  8. To fact-check
  9. To find places, people, or businesses

Here are some of my favorite ways so far to use ChatGPT:

  1. To see what others are searching for on ChatGPT
  2. To create topic lists
  3. To generate content ideas
  4. To create better titles for my articles and videos
  5. To write code
  6. To answer complex problems
  7. To save time when writing about any subject
  8. For keyword research

Examples On How I Use ChatGPT:

Give me long keywords on an article for small business growth.
Who Should I Follow on Linkedn?

Conclusion

Information is cheap. We live in the era of free knowledge. In fact, it overflows. That is not news. There is nothing that you can’t learn today without paying a single penny. Even paid information is cheap. I have Audible and Kindle accounts and read two to three books weekly, plus I follow key YouTube channels and podcasts so it really is inexpensive for the value of learning.

A Human’s Competitive Advantage Over?AI:

ChatGPT, just like Google or any Technology, is a tool. Tools are good servants but terrible?masters.?

I will continue to use ChatGPT, and I suspect it will become as or even more popular than Google to answer questions, finding information, and solving problems.

But I don’t worry at all that it can replace me. Because no matter how much we integrate machines and tech into our daily lives, nothing beats real human interactions, creativity, and problem-solving, flaws and all. Instead of relying on data from the past, I will always strive to think outside the box to invent new solutions. And I hope you will too! Let’s use Tech to save time and enhance what we are doing, not to replace our thinking.?

It doesn't take your brain, but you feed in an idea and a concept and focus it down purely because what it feeds back is "wrong" but sometimes with some right, which can bring clearer ideas and focus to those. Especially when you are on your own with nothing else to brainstorm with! But jeez will people stop playing with it - it's always busy!!!! Worse than a government bureaucrat drinking tea ????
