How Executive Coaching Can Benefit You and Your Organization

Have you ever wondered how some of the most successful people you know have maintained their edge? I have.?

Take a guy like Tom Brady, who is arguably still the greatest quarterback in history. Brady has coaches by his side to support him and help him improve his game.?

I doubt he’d be able to maintain his level of play without a team of coaches around him.

Companies with executive coaching programs fully understand that coaching is the most potent tool for producing lasting personal change.?

And this change doesn’t just impact those at the top. The behavior changes achieved by executives trickle down to their team, as people often model their behavior based on their bosses.

How Executive Coaching Works

There’s plenty of confusion around what exactly an executive coach does and what they should not be doing. Here’s my take.

Executive coaches provide open and honest feedback to their clients. Due to the?individual needs?that coaching offers for clients, exact responsibilities might differ depending on the company’s need or the individual.?

Executive coaches:

  • Ask thought-provoking questions?
  • Help clients achieve clarity
  • Challenge assumptions
  • Help clients make better decisions
  • Provide resources
  • Provide advice?
  • Conduct confidential interviews to aid a client in self-awareness
  • Establish development goals.

Average Length of Engagement

The average length of a coaching engagement depends on various factors and varies based on the objectives clients are looking to achieve.?

Some clients have a problem that they’d like help with that can quickly be addressed, while others need to work on behavioral changes, which requires a longer-term commitment.?

Note:?When looking for a coach, make sure the coach you’re interviewing isn’t trying to sell you a one-size-fits-all program that doesn’t meet your needs.

The ROI of Coaching

That saying, “Your mileage may vary,” is very accurate when it comes to coaching. However, here are some of the many benefits I’ve observed in my coaching practice.

Increased levels of motivation and productivity.?When clients see the success of their efforts, they feel motivated to keep pushing forward. They reengage and focus on accomplishing what they set out to do.

A renewed sense of self-worth.?If you’ve been in business long enough, you’ve undoubtedly experienced some situations that have made you doubt your self-worth. Talking through specific concerns with a coach usually results in a better understanding of what has occurred. The client can better understand whether they are fully responsible for the situation or if other factors were at play.

Improved leadership abilities.?People don’t work for companies. They work for people. The more effective your leaders are, the more likely people will remain with your organization.

Increase in overall employee satisfaction and reduced employee turnover.?When a company engages executive coaches on behalf of their people, the company is sending the message that they support continued development. Growth and development are high on the list of employee wants these days. When an employee feels supported and valued, they’ll stick around. When they don’t feel this way, they’ll quit.
