How Exciting is your Human Resources Team?

One of the crucial departments at a hotel is the department in charge of hiring - your Human Resources department.

The responsibility of hiring enthusiastic and talented staff who would contribute to great guest satisfaction lies with them. However, we feel that if the very department in charge of this role is NOT as charged up or enthusiastic themselves, it sets a very sorry precedent of the staff they hire.

We feel that the Human Resources department needs to be a team of self-starters who best exemplify organization values and strengths. Imagine an organization that claims to have incredible guest experiences and be an employer of choice having the dullest Recruitment Manager conducting interviews! That just doesn’t compliment the organization. As hospitality business owners, be mindful of who you put in such roles. If you decide to cut corners and hire just about anybody who walks in with an MBA in HR, your organization will face the results of that action in the years to come.

So, what do you look for in your human resources team. For starters, how enthusiastic are they about living the organization values? Are they merely pumping in the hours and pulling out reports or have they genuinely devised and executed strategies and initiatives to drive staff well-being?

Too often, the experience in terms of years is looked at when hiring Human Resource professionals rather than analyzing their contributions or being curious about what they would like to implement in your organization. Surveying staff about their happiness with Human Resource initiatives is another way of getting feedback about how effective your human resource team is.
