STORY #158
HOW EVERYTHING HAPPENS WHEN NOTHING APPEARS TO
We don’t have to convince nature to produce gorgeous sunsets. They happen by themselves. There is a way in which we live and work that can happen just as naturally. I have tasted this way and want the full meal.
Certain conditions make it easier and more likely. When there is nothing to win or lose and nothing to prove. When there is nothing to defend and nothing to protect. When there is no trying hard or extra effort needed. When listening harder or looking harder doesn’t work. When trying to figure it out yields nothing. When no amount of working harder is enough to rattle loose a new solution. When you’re seriously stuck with no apparent way out or through.
Now the spirit is finally free to work without a plan. You’re finally out of the way, out of your head, brought to an end of your small self. Something amazing can now happen.
There will be many endings like this, certainly, and the challenge is always the same: how quickly can you see the ending and then step into the larger, limitless field of the invisible, sacred world where all things are possible.
The ending itself is an illusion. Seeing through the illusion is done without eyes, ears, hands or legs. Frustration, fear, impatience and anger serve as the doorway in. They simply indicate you’re at the end of your rope. Like a mirage in the desert, all of this can appear real. None of it is.
The perceived ending is a door way, not a wall. It isn’t designed to gut you but to guide you. It is surprising how little we need to do when centered in our truest self to achieve the outcomes we want. Horses are teaching me this.

I am slowly learning a skill they don’t teach in coaching schools. Even with a masters in counseling I never took a course of the topic. When working with the horses I am learning to become irrelevant. I am learning to stay out of the way. Let horses, connection and healing take center stage. It feels counter intuitive at times. There is a saying when in tough times — let go and let the gods do their work.
Here on the horse ranch there is a similar mantra — let go and let the horses do their work.
The presence of horses that teach and heal can dissolve confusion, fear, anger, hate, unforgiveness, disempowerment and helplessness oftentimes in a matter of minutes. Seeing this happen time and again gives me incentive and confidence to stand back and allow what wants to happen to happen. When I do this my experience is consistently the same: I appear to do nothing and everything happens.
Come and taste for yourself. Individuals, small teams and groups are welcomed.

1 年"Let go and let the horses do the work." How simple, yet powerful. I've witnessed and experienced what you describe with horses. Thanks Dan!
I love this idea, Dan, as you know, of the limitless, the sacred, the universe being infinitely wise, and us as part of the connection where all things really are possible. Trusting that. Thank you for your thoughts; they are wise, inspiring, and heartfelt. And you name a process that I can be working on into infinity.
Your beautiful heart always shines through with so much ease. Thank you for all you and your partner do to share the spirit and gift of these most magnificent creatures. ??

1 年Another beautiful piece Dan. This 'letting go' is quite counter intuitive in our 'take charge' society and so very needed. To allow the horses to work is truly magical and always 'right'. And it requires us to do that, let go. Thank you for writing.
