How to: Evaluate Your HVAC System

If you’re asking the question “Does my HVAC system need an upgrade?”, it most likely does. A working system will provide you with temperature and air quality control, and year-round comfort.

If it’s not, then something's not right.

An HVAC system has a lifespan of about 15 years, although there are a few variables that can change this number. It’s important to keep records of the equipment’s service history to help you keep track of how old it is, and how frequently it needs repairs.

Evaluating your HVAC system

Increased Energy Bills

If your energy bills are increasing dramatically, that's a sign that something is wrong. High energy bills are a result of an outdated system.

If your system is constantly breaking down and needing repairs, this is a sign that it's time to upgrade, or your business will keep losing money (and comfort).

Visual Damage

If conducting a visual inspection reveals leaks, weird noises or smells, then your system needs an upgrade. When components start to wear down, they lose efficiency which results in these problems and ultimately leads to failures.

Temperature Control

Inconsistent temperature is a sure sign that your system is on its way out. If your business is either too cold or too hot, then your system is struggling to keep up and maintain proper airflow.

If you notice a difference in air quality, that is a sign that your system isn’t able to properly vent or filter air.

This can lead to allergies, dry eyes, and respiratory issues.

Upgrading your system is an investment. It is costly upfront, but the savings in energy bills will cut down on costs by up to 30-40%.

When you are dealing with all of the expenses and effects of a dying system, it’s a no-brainer that it’s time for an upgrade. Call MEP for a complimentary consultation and we’ll help you decide which system is right for your business.
