How Eva Wang’s International Career Took Flight at Infosys
Infosys alum Eva Wang ’s career story begins with her participation in a student exchange program hosted by Infosys in India. Now with Microsoft in Shanghai, Eva discusses her time with Infosys and how it fostered a lifelong connection not only with the company and the many friends she made but also with India and its people.
How did you come to join Infosys?
The story of how I joined Infosys is one of my most important life stories, and I often bring it up when I meet new people. I was in my fourth year of college and applied to a student exchange program sponsored by the governments of India and China. I was accepted into the program as one of a hundred students from top universities in China majoring in computer science.
We went to India, where Infosys hosted all of us. We studied at the Infosys Development Center at Mysore for four months and did our internships at the Infosys offices in Bangalore for another three months. This gave me a real experience of working with a well-respected company like Infosys, and after graduation, I joined Infosys China very naturally.
Tell us a little about your experience at Infosys. What were your roles? How did your time at Infosys help you along your career path?
I joined Infosys as a developer and in that role, I actually learned new technologies to support my customers in different industries. I spent a year in Shanghai and later I was sent to the U.S. to support customers onsite. My U.S. experience was tremendously rewarding in terms of my personal growth.
After spending almost three years in the U.S., I returned to Infosys China and joined the presales team, where I had more chances to work with business stakeholders internally and externally. After returning to China, I decided to pursue a business degree, and my boss Rajnish Sharma (still the head of delivery and operations for Infosys in China) supported me in that. I went on to complete my MBA from China Europe International Business School (CEIBS). Infosys gave me so many opportunities to grow and develop my skills. I can say I never wasted my time with this company. I was always learning and my managers were always challenging me to grow.
Tell us about the relationships you made at Infosys. Have you maintained them since leaving the company?
Oh, this is actually something I am very proud of! I made lots of friends at Infosys, especially among my Indian colleagues, and some of them have become lifelong friends. Even though we are all in different places, we still keep in touch and try to meet in person whenever we visit each other’s cities.
The time I spent with all my Indian friends has led me to feel a real connection to this country and its people. I now work for Microsoft China with responsibility for partnerships with Global System Integrators. Infosys as a large global IT service provider is a strategic partner of Microsoft. I’m very lucky to still be working with my old friends from Infosys China in my new job.
What is your perception of Infosys today? What sets Infosys apart from other companies?
It’s evident that Infosys is keeping up to date with all the developments in the fast-moving IT industry. The company is investing more in new technologies and innovations. It’s building up its own solutions and intellectual property beyond traditional IT services. And it’s actively seeking partnerships with others in the market.
At the same time, the company is maintaining its foundations, built on high business ethics, integrity, and respect for people. I’m happy to say Infosys is a place with strong diversity, a culture of inclusivity, and a lot of young energy.
What does it mean to you to be an Infosys alum? Does the adage, “Once an Infoscion, always an Infoscion” ring true for you?
I’m always very proud to tell people my first job was with Infosys. I could not agree more with the sentiments connected with the saying, “Once an Infoscion, always an Infoscion.”
