"This year, one Christmas ad stood out to me amongst the plain weird ones (take your pick but John Lewis & Partners for me…)? and the expected traditional ones (gargantuan buffets seen a million times before …..)

For me this Christmas, Etsy claims the favourite spot for doing something a little bit different.

There’s quite a lot I love about it but perhaps the main thing is that it is based on true consumer insight and dramatises it in a?funny?and relatable way. We all have the experience of the blank mind when it comes to finding a gift for that ’awkward’ person (people?!) in our lives, so it’s immediately engaging and brings on a smile.

On top of that emotional connection, I think it’s doing a lot of other things very well too.

It’s set to the tune of Mission Impossible which is both humorous and memorable, and does a great job at capturing attention from the start. It draws us in as viewers to join in on the present hunting-mission and wanting to know what will be discovered, and how it will go down with the ‘awkward’ recipient of the gift. And you’ll probably be humming the track for the rest of the day …

The message is clear – whatever your quirky pressie needs, Etsy has it covered and will deliver a unique and bespoke present that will stand out against the usual generic gifts.

Executionally, it’s highly campaignable with different recipients and scenarios making it easy for Etsy to showcase the breadth of its offering and tailor key messages to each ad – a clear winner for me this Christmas!"
