How These Essential Kits Are Transforming Summer Camp Experiences for 250 Kids

Summer camp offers numerous benefits for youth, including fostering independence, connecting with nature, and building relationships. However, the cost can be a significant barrier for many families.

For the past 3 years, Granite United Way has partnered with sponsors and volunteers to equip kids with essential items for summer camp. This year, 250 kids in the Upper Valley received backpacks filled with sunscreen, towels, water bottles, and lunch boxes, thanks to our generous supporters.

Sponsors like Bio X Cell , Mascoma Bank , Adimab , and GEOKON have been instrumental in expanding this project across the Upper Valley Region.

“At?Mascoma?Bank, we believe in the power of adventure and learning,” says Mariah Davis, Community Impact Officer at Mascoma Bank. “That is why we are thrilled to sponsor the Camp Starter Kit program, giving kids the necessary summer items they need to explore, grow, and create unforgettable memories.”

Our friends at Ledyard National Bank also played a crucial role by packing the bags and storing them at their locations.

"Ledyard National Bank's Operations Center team took on the task of completing and getting the backpacks ready for area kids to enjoy their summer at camp. We filled 250 backpacks and are thrilled to support our community in this meaningful way. We look forward to assisting again next year."

The backpacks were then distributed to the local recreation departments in Lebanon, Hartford, and Enfield.

“The program began 3 years ago with one recreation department and 100 camp starter kits,” says Katie Berndsen, Director of Corporate Relations at Granite United Way. “With the help of our sponsors, it has grown to now include 3 recreation departments and 250 camp kits. We hope that this program will grow until we reach all the campers in the Upper Valley.”
