How to escape from webinar fatigue
You don't have to attend every wedding for which you receive an invitation. It is the same with webinars.
The starting point is your resolve. Your time is your own. Nobody can spend it without your consent.
For every webinar invitation you get, ask these two questions:
How will it benefit me if I attend?
What will I stand to lose if I don't attend?
Here are guidelines I follow for myself:
- Is it mandatory? These are not webinars but online board meetings or advisory groups etc. I attend them.
2. Is it relevant to me and my clients? Yes. Then I attend them.
3. Is it relating my interests, hobbies etc? Then I keep them in my choice list. I attend them if they don't clash with points 1 and 2. (Sometimes I do make exceptions and reschedule if possible)
4. Is it likely to be fun, entertaining, engaging and relaxing? Then yes, if they don't clash with points 1 & 2.
I delete all other invitations. If they are invitations from organisations and people I don't know, then I do two things:
a. Check them out on LinkedIn. If it is from one of my connections and on a subject of my interest I agree to attend. If it is not clashing with points 1 & 2 above.
b. If it is from close friends or family on a subject of interest then I agree to attend.
c. If the invitation is from some one I don't know, on a subject of no interest I send them to the spam folder. In some cases I block their emails.
There are a few webinars I would have liked to attend but could not. Then I ask for the recording and go through it. One advantage: I can fast forward sections which are dragging and boring.
Is this working? I would say yes.
What are your strategies to escape from webinar fatigue? Please share them here. You will help us get the most from webinars we attend.
What about those who promote your participation by using exalted language that they attribute to you! Permission marketing be damned!
