Just follow this simple acronym. Don’t worry, even if you’re not following all these steps, the last business to whom you gave your personal information might be following them.
V.I.R.U.S.
V Is For Antivirus Software
To help ensure you get a computer virus or data breach DO NOT use antivirus software. To ensure your Apple/Mac computer gets a virus just repeat after me, “Apple computers are perfectly safe and never get viruses and therefore do not need antivirus software.” If you have antivirus software let the subscription run out so it will stop updating it’s antivirus database. If you see antivirus software that you didn’t install just leave it alone. It’s probably fake and you already have a virus. Congratulations!
I is For The “I Got This” Attitude
That’s right! You got this. You don’t need a professional IT to keep your data, your staff’s data and your clients’ data safe. You and Google can do it all by yourself. If you can’t solve your computer problem with Google, then call a professional IT for free advice. We love spending hours on the phone working for free and NEVER expect our advice to turn into an actual appointment so we can pay our own bills.
R is For Resolve
Time resolves all issues. The longer you put off getting help with your computer virus, the better the chance is it will just go away. Now this is one of the BEST ways to make sure your computer virus has dug itself deep into your system and that hackers have almost all of your, your staff’s and your clients’ data. Again congratulations!
U is For User Profile
Be sure that all of your staff is using an administrative profile. This gives your staff special privileges to download and install anything WITHOUT a password! This way if they get a fake warning on a website or email it will be much easier for the bot to install the computer virus and have it spread through your entire network including attached backup systems!
S if For Safe Off-Network Off-Site Backups
If you don’t know what this is congratulations for two reasons, you don’t have a professional IT taking care of your computers and you’re a step closer to losing your data NOT just from a computer virus, but from a fire or flooding!
Obviously I Was Being Facetious and I Don’t Want You to Lose Your Data or Get a Computer Virus But…
Whether you use a computer for personal use or to run your business, if you are following even one of these steps, you are well on your way to getting exactly what you don’t want - a computer virus and/or data breach of your personal information, staff’s information and clients’ information!
Be Proactive
Have the oil in your car changed.
Fix the leak in your roof before it becomes a waterfall.
Have a professional IT, such as myself, maintain your computers.
