How to Ensure Well Being?

- Well-being is an experience of health, happiness, satisfaction, prosperity and other positive emotions in life that is a state of human being composed by physical, mental, emotional, and social aspect.
Well being is a holistic structure, thus it requires a holistic approach in order to ensure it.
Physical Aspects are those that could be seen while achieving, for instance, promotion is a physical aspect; however,promotion might make you well-to-do’ however achieving success through only physical aspect will always put more burden on your shoulders and you cannot ensure you well being through that.
Well Being includes all sorts of aspects without putting any strain or burden on onself.
A leader must ensure well being of him/herself so that the leader can help others achieve the well-being state of life. As I strongly believe in cost-effective learning and as a good leader, I believe in spreading knowledge that could benefit most people.
Today I would be sharing some important key points that you should keep in your mind in order to ensure your well being.
In my conversation with Suresh Padmanabhan in The Value Addition Show, who has been my mentor as well and curates his own money workshop and is a leader of his own, I learned the true meaning of well-being and how to achieve the same.
Well being is inter-related with improving natural productivity. One can only improve his or her natural productivity if he or she is in her state of well-being. The absence of a well-being state might result in inefficiency and negative consequences.
Well-Being is a Complete State of a Human Being.
As Mr. Padmanabhan rightly says that well being includes the physical, mental and social state of a person. In a state where a person is comfortable and satisfied with him/herself and the surrounding.
There is a difference between Wellness and Well Being.
Provided Well Being as the holistic structure with a holistic approach, Wellness is just the Physical aspect, like the example of promotion that was mentioned earlier.
There is a Pyramid, where at the apex are the ones who are most responsible and accountable to the team, they are the leaders. In the middle are the selected few who are the potential leaders who will become amazing leaders if they are well-trained, and lastly, at the bottom of the Pyramid is the crowd, people who have some sort of Talent, which is yet not filtered.
As the one at the apex is responsible for all the decisions, he or she must be alert throughout. In order to be alert and not let any other thing become a hurdle to their task, well-being comes into play.
The ones at the apex must have the control over their inner-feelings so that they could do their jobs and could take decisions and be accountable for the same, rather than having those inner-feelings work like a hurdle to their work.
How to ensure well being to myself?
In order to ensure well being, one must understand their inner-self. One must be able to understand his or her social, mental and physical aspects that would ensure his or her well-being.
How does our inner self affect our well being?
A leader must be able to control the inner feelings. In order to control one’s inner feelings it is important to know how one’s inner feelings might affect the leader in daily tasks.
As Mr. Padmanabhan provides an example using two glasses, one filled with water and one with petrol.
Suppose the Glass A is filled with Water and Glass B with Petrol. He further introduces another element, called Element C, a spark.
Suppose Element C that is the spark drops in Glass B that has petrol in it.
What would happen? An explosion would take place.
However, if the same Element C drops in Glass A that has water in it. The spark would immediately be lit off.
Now consider Glass A, water as you being calm, composed, happy and satisfied. Whereas Glass B, petrol is you in aggression and anger. Element C is an independent variable which is out of your control.
A good leader is someone who would turn the situation into a peaceful one, even if things are not in control, a leader would try to control the consequences of the situation.
Similarly, in order to ensure well-being,one must focus on their inner self. The focus should be on the feeling of being calm composed and happy, rather than the feeling of aggression. Since situations are not in our control, we can control the way we react to it. The way we react is what ensures our well being.
If we let our calm and composed feelings to react with a situation, it will ensure our well being. It will not disturb our focus from the work.
According to T.A. Wright, 25% variances in job performance occur due to the changes in well-being.
A good leader is the one who understands the role of feelings in ensuring well being. It is us who decide if we want to be the calm self or the aggressive self of our life? This decision is an essential one that would ensure well being.
As leaders are at the top of the Pyramid, it does not allow for them to be the aggressive selves. Leaders are always required to be calm and poised, so they could make a decision confidently and deal with an unexceptional problem in a way that would not disturb the peace of the team. This way, well being would be ensured along with the efficiency in natural productivity.
However, it is true that it is easier said than to be done.
Thus we now would look deep into the ways we can ensure our well being.
How to Achieve Well Being?
1. Control Your Reactions
In order to achieve well being, one of the most important things to keep in mind is how to deal with a situation that is beyond your control.
Just like the example of water and petrol, we dealt with it ore.
It is rather important to keep in mind that when we cannot change the situation, we may choose to change the way we react to it, in order to maintain the peace of our mind and our surrounding.
2. Daily Well Being
It is important to include smaller steps towards well being. You need to ensure your daily well being before you are ready to ensure your over-all well being.
What it means is that in order to move forward to be a leader, you must ensure that in your daily life you focus on your inner feelings and keep a note on your reactions.
It is important to understand that well being does not happen in a day or two; however it is an on going process that is needed to be taken care of at an individual level by checks and balances in your life over your feelings and responses to situations that are beyond your control.
Wellbeing helps increasing natural productivity and according to the Office of National Statistics, United Kingdom, ‘Good Work’ is considered equivalent to better physical, mental and social health with less absenteeism.
3. Focus on a Structured Way
Based on my personal experiences, and being a student myself of Mr. Padmanaban, I can surely tell that well being is a part of your daily routine.
There is no short cut to achieve either well-being or success. You need to work for it in a structured way.
In order to achieve well being, you must go in a structured way. You must plan about the events and situations beforehand which you may have to deal with and plan out a way to deal with such situations in a calm and poised way.
I myself used to sometimes think of my life after I am retired and how would it be. To which my reaction was a poised one.
I realized that in order to deal with such situations or even to achieve physical well being, it would be wrong to ignore the spiritual progress.
One should never postpone their spiritual process and must follow the path of peace in order to ensure well being.
According to a Hypothesis conducted by J Pallant’s SPSS Survival Manual, it was proved that 40.8% variances occur because of well-being in employee’s job performance.
Spiritual and Psychological Well-Being of employees significantly affects the job performance of employees in an organization.
Well being is extremely important in order to have excellent results in any job of any sector. It is important to ensure well-being because it directly affects our performance and growth in life as well as in job.
According to United Nation’s World Happiness Report, India ranked 133 out of 156 countries, meaning India has performed really low in terms of well being and more attention is required on the same.

4 年Well Being is multi dimensional, physical, mental, financial, social, professional, and last but not the least the spritual well being, all have inter linkages and the satisfaction level need to be self defined.
