Team Virtual

Welcome to the second edition of our LinkedIn Newsletter.?
In this edition, we dive deeper into how digital marketing agencies can ensure a smooth integration for overseas hires.?
In today's digital landscape, leveraging global talent has become a strategic imperative for digital marketing teams. We discussed this in detail in the first edition of our Newsletter.
As the client success manager at Team Virtual, I have navigated the complexities of international team building. Helping our associates who work with digital marketing agencies in the UK integrate smoothly into their teams. I'm excited to share insights on creating a truly integrated and high-performing team from my learnings.?
The Rising Importance of Overseas Hiring
Geographical boundaries no longer confine the digital marketing world. Offshore hiring offers unprecedented advantages:
Integration is More Than Just Onboarding
Simply hiring overseas isn't enough. Successful integration is the key to unlocking their full potential and your team’s. It's about creating a unified team culture beyond physical distances and time zones.
Here are just a few things you can do to accomplish this:?
Comprehensive training is the cornerstone of effective integration. This goes beyond technical skills. You can start by developing a robust onboarding program that introduces company culture, expectations, do’s and don’ts, the list goes on.
Create a cross-cultural communication guide to ensure your team members understand culturally appropriate communication. Implement mentorship programs pairing local and overseas team members and provide continuous learning opportunities.?
Now that your new team member is based in a different country or continent, it’s also a good idea to create a cultural sensitivity training guide. Different countries or localities can have different appropriations, cultures and work environments. It’s important to inform and train new employees on your country, company, and locality-specific appropriations in communication and otherwise.?
Lessons I Learnt
I have had the opportunity to work closely with team members as they integrate into our client’s organisations. Here are a few lessons from my experience:
Practically, this can be done in many ways. Invest in technology, and use collaborative tools that enable smooth communication i.e. Slack, and Zoom. Organise virtual team-building events, these can be anything from monthly huddles to weekly game nights.?
Set the right expectations for communication, and discuss expectations on response times, format etc. Intentionally build trust, be honest, and answer all questions. Answering all questions also relates to giving context, and explaining tasks, changes, and actions in detail, this is essential to building trust and being transparent. In a remote setting, your team must know how to get in touch with you if needed, make sure this is discussed initially.?
If they should not be getting in touch with you for every small thing, let them know who should be their first point of contact.?
In my opinion, integration is an ongoing process so give it time. Be patient with the process. Add and subtract to your onboarding process as you move forward and learn.?
