How the Enneagram Works
Enneagrams are popping up everywhere in pop culture right now, and this self-awareness journey can help you in your job search. Knowing your strengths, attributes and weaknesses can help you describe yourself in an interview, help you fill out a prescreening question and write a great cover letter.
It can also help you identify what remote roles you will naturally excel in.
When I took the Enneagram for work, I came out as a Type 3, which are commonly known as being vain. I didn’t resonate with that at all. I’m not creating these podcasts for myself.
As a Social 3 Kristen helped me see my “vanity” comes through in the form of enjoying being a podcast host. I like being the one who can be on camera and coach you about remote work. And that’s OK.
Understanding where you come from can give you permission to pursue what lights you up.
Type 3s are very ambitious, which has served me well as a business owner and advocate for military spouses, but the shadow side of a 3 is that my identity gets meshed with my goals and work gets engrained in my personal life. I have trouble distinguishing the two.
Another trait that sounded off to me was self-deceit. I don’t lie to myself. I’m very honest with myself.
Kristen helped me see that convincing myself that it wasn’t a big deal to sacrifice my weekend for work is a form of self-deceit.
In the past I have struggled with separating work from life. After learning more about my Enneagram I’m now good at delegating and learning to say no. I’m also skilled in recognizing my limits – how much can be on my plate before I realize it’s going to be hard for me to clock out mentally and emotionally.
While I’m continuing to learn how to balance my needs with my family's needs, the Enneagram has helped me gain so much self-awareness and has made me a better business owner, wife, and mother.
