suspension capability of a logical partition
Before going to steps we have to check and know below
1-ensure that an AIX? or Linux logical partition is either in the Not Activated or Running states.
2-The Suspend/Resume feature for logical partitions is supported on POWER8? processor-based servers when the firmware is at level FW840, or later.
3-When suspending a logical partition, the HMC stores the data about the switching mode in the reserved storage device that was used to store the configuration data.
Steps Like below :
- From the navigation pane, open Systems Management > Servers, and click the system on which the logical partition is located.
- Select the logical partition in the work pane.
- From the Tasks menu, select Properties.
- If Allow this partition to be suspended check box is selected, the logical partition is suspend-capable.
- If Allow this partition to be suspended check box is not selected, the logical partition is not suspend-capable. To enable the suspension capability of the logical partition, select the Allow this partition to be suspended check box.
- The HMC validates whether the logical partition is suitable for suspension by evaluating against all resource and configuration restrictions. If the validation succeeds, the logical partition is successfully enabled for suspension. If the validation fails, error messages are shown for your appropriate action.
- Click OK.
When the logical partition is in the Running state, and when the partition is suspend-capable, you must not dynamically add restricted resources like dedicated I/O resources, Host Ethernet Adapter, or Host Connection Adapters to the suspend-capable logical partition.
Notice
HEA is not supported on POWER8 processor-based server.
