Do you know the feeling? – You need to make a decision. You have created a table that includes the advantages and disadvantages. You have analyzed the matter rationally, and you still feel that you don’t know what the right thing to do is? You know all the logical explanations. However, something just doesn’t feel right.
Studies show that our body knows the right answer before the analytical part of our brain does. Sometimes, when we need to make a decision, there are situations in which we feel a sense of what is right. We have an intuition for what is the right decision. However, sometimes it takes time to explain our decision rationally. We tend to ignore this intuition because it’s not backed up by a rational explanation. We don’t understand why this feeling or intuition emerged, and we ignore this feeling and continue with our daily routine.
Paradoxically, many times, if we would only stop and listen to this feeling, it could save us a lot of time and anguish.
I want to share with you my experience concerning this topic. In one of my meditation practices, I had a vision of a specific manager who should attend the retreat that I was about to facilitate. I had an inner feeling that it would be beneficial for him. I listened to this inner feeling, and as I finished the meditation practice, I called him to invite him to participate in the retreat.
He was busy, and I didn’t hear back from him. I forgot about it.
A week later, while I was practicing meditation, the vision of the same manager emerged into my consciousness. Without thinking twice, I called him again. Again, he didn’t answer. I left him a message that the retreat can be beneficial for him, and if he is interested, he is welcome to call me back. I hung up and forgot about it.
A few days later, he called me. As we talked, we both understood that the retreat is what he needs right now, and it would be good for him to participate. He was at a junction in his life, needed to make a decision.
On the one hand, he was overloaded with the daily tasks and daily broaden. And on the other hand, he felt confused and an inner feeling that he is not in the right place anymore, that there is something different that he needs to do. He was a senior manager in the Hi-tech industry, and he felt that he needed to make a change in his life. However, he didn’t know what to do. He decided to attend the retreat and allow a place for clarity to emerge and to figure out what to do with the rest of his life.
He joined the retreat. At the end of the meditation practice on the third day, he reached out to me and said, “WOW” I got what I wanted; I can go home.
He shared with me that he was struggling during the meditation practice; he didn’t feel comfortable. And suddenly, he had a deep understanding that emerged from his wisdom and body; what his next step will be.
He saw a clear vision, beyond his rational mind, that he is going to be a teacher.
When he shared with the rest of the participants the epiphany regarding his next step, becoming a teacher, it was very moving and felt correct. The participant started to react to his discovery of wanting to be a teacher.
It was a feeling of magic, clarity that emerged beyond any thought, schema, and an attempt to control and structure reality as we want.
When we are mindful and listen deeply to ourselves and the signs along the way, new options and paths are revealed, and clarity is created, even in the greatest confusion. Sometimes in order to listen and to understand things accurately, we need to create space, to give it time, to spend time in the place of uncertainty, a place that is not easy to be in.
The ability to create space, pause, and reflect enables us to wonder and magic to happen and for clarity to emerge.
