Do you wish you had control over your team's performance??
Many organisations try to get their people to be more efficient by incentivising their?good?work with monetary rewards and punishing them for underperformance, thinking this will push them towards reaching their goals.
While these strategies may work in the short term, they are outdated and can be harmful to the entire organisation's productivity and culture.
This is because they cause stress and anxiety among team members.
But here's the thing - this cycle can be stopped.
As leaders, we cannot control every aspect of our team's performance. However, we can inspire and empower them through the power of goal setting.
Goal setting is a key aspect of creating and obtaining the results we want. It provides clarity and focus on what's important, which can be broken down into smaller tasks that can be ticked off each day.
It helps in identifying what's irrelevant or a distraction and also gives us motivation.
The best way to keep us moving towards the outcomes we desire.
The most common and successfully used technique I used for my clients to set goals is SMART goals.
SMART Goals has all the effective criteria you need to support you in writing a powerful goal and are developed based on these acronyms:
As you go about setting your SMART goals, ask yourself:
What specifically do you want?
Why do you want this?

Why is this important to you?
Are you 100% committed to this goal?
What will it give you when you achieve it?
What will it cost you when you don't?
Is this goal for you or someone else?
How will you know when you've achieved this goal?
What are the criteria? Evidence? Benchmarks?
How can it be measured?
What would happen if it was achieved?
What would happen if it wasn't achieved?
As someone who has worked and helped over 10,000 business owners, c-suite executives, leaders, and teams across Australia & around the world, I've seen firsthand that goal setting not only affects behavior but?also job performance.
Just imagine if everyone in your organisation applied the concept of goal setting. It would make a huge difference. Everyone would become more resourceful, work better together, and help shape the organisation's future.
If you found this interesting and want to talk more about how we can incorporate the right strategies to develop your organisation’s culture and reach greater heights, here are 4 ways I can help:
